At the risk of being overly sentimental:
I've been reflecting on my experiences over the past year, and one of the things I'm happy/pleased/satisfied about is my discovery of this board, and my interactions with the members thereof. Sure, some of you have been unpleasant, rude, unfeeling, and personally insulting on occasion, but those moments pale in comparison to the friendly voices of experience who have favored me with that most priceless of human interactions-- your own knowledge, hard-earned, yet so freely given. Thanks for that, y'all.
Had it not been for this board and the discussions I'd seen on the subject, it would never have occurred to me to get a C&R FFL. I have yet to use the thing for a through-the-mail transaction, but I'm looking forward to it-- ahhh, what a pleasure that will be, to step back into history and get a gun in the mail, just like regular people used to be able to do when I was a kid. In the meantime, it's a satisfaction to walk into a local gunstore and pick up a Mosin, or a CZ-52, or an SKS, and just say "here's my FFL." No wacky forms and phone calls, just a straight-up transaction like it should be. (Yeah, shouldn't really even need that, but modern times are what they are...) I'm grateful for all the talk about C&R I found here, and I thank those of you who took the time to make things clear.
And, even with purchases of more modern weapons, it's a treat to not have to wait on the phone call to Big Daddy. I can bypass that step in this state because I went to the trouble of getting a CWP. Again, that's entirely due to the existence of this site-- I'd read about it here, which got me to thinking about it, and so I went and did it. I would never have realized how easy the whole process was, had I not happened upon this forum. Thanks for all the discussions on that topic.
Of course, these gifts y'all have given me have their little drawbacks. I now have a whole list of C&R stuff I absolutely have to have, all of which I wouldn't have thought about before I allowed myself to get suckered in to the collecting bug. Dang, I've never really been into rifles, but allasudden I have two Mosins and an SKS and I'm not looking back, 'cause they're very loveable. They have "personalities," so to speak, and I'm very glad I met them, and it's all y'all's fault I did.
When I first starting lurking about this site and garnering the little gems that I found lying about, I had one pistol and no rifles, no FFL, no carry permit, and far less knowledge about guns in general. Gracious sakes, as my grandmother used to say, how the times have changed.
So, thanks. I think.
Best wishes for a happy new year to you all,
Andy
