Thanks Winchester, Nightforce and Trijicon! No More Excuses!
I took my twin Stealths (a .22-250 Rem and a .308 Win) to the outdoor range today. The weather was nice, 57 degrees with winds at 20 MPH, SSW. I am really ticked-off! Thanks to Winchester, Nightforce and Trijicon, I have no more excuses for if I miss my intended target! If they shoot this well, with cheap factory loads, in 20 MPH winds, what will happen with my soon-to-be-tested handloads Lapua handloads? The worst part of having good, reliable equipment? No more excuses for misses. Safe to say, the woodchucks and crows are DOA this summer.
I sighted the rifles yesterday indoors, at 50 yards. Today, upon arrival, I set-up, cleaned the barrels and wiped them dry. So, starting with clean, dry barrels, and factory ammo, these are the groups fired at 100 yards. I fired two sight-ins through the .308, and then a 3-shot group, no cool down. Remember, 20 mph winds!
Next I fired 2 sight-ins through the .22-250, and then a 9-shot group, no cool down. Again, remember, 20 mph winds. The small .224s didn’t fare are well as the .308s in the winds. The following are the Stealths’ set-ups:
Winchester Model 70 Stealth .308 Win
Ken Ferrel scope rail
Leaupold Mark 4, 30mm rings
Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-10X56 scope
Winchester Model 70 Stealth .22-250 Rem
Warne scope rail
Nightforce 30 mm unimount
Nightforce 12-42X56 scope
