The 686

Can anyone tell me why my 686's trigger and hammer are made from metal that looks worse than dog crap???

Another new guy

As of one hour ago, I became the proud owner of MY new 686-3. Haven't even got the camera out yet but it's a beauty. I bought it from a fellow member of the Michigan Gun Owners site.
I'm declaring myself a member of the 686 club. Looking forward to learning more about this fine tool.

I think the 686 is the over-all best revolver ever built! You're going to enjoy it!

Dark Knight, the -6 models have the MIM trigger and hammer. That is why they have the appearance that they do. S&W changed to the MIM with the -5 version and then the addition of the lock was the engineering change to the -6 version.

Hope that helps. If it makes you feel any better, you should not really have any functional difference with the MIM trigger and hammer othen than the firing pin is no longer located on the hammer with the MIM version.

I officially joined the 686 club last month, as a kind of wedding gift to myself. I started out trying to buy a model 65 but the seller wouldn't let it go for less than $400 & I would only go to $350, so I thanked him and left. I was actually picking up a Ruger Single Six at another shop when I saw the 686-2 4" Stainless when I asked what he'd take for it. The owner said $450, I replied how about $400 OTD and the deal was done. So glad the deal didn't work out on the 65. Best of all, I bought it with change that I had been saving for the last 5 years. It was nice to see all that coin turned into something that I'll never get rid of in my lifetime, god willing, instead of on something I wouldn't remember after a year. The 686 is definately a special gun to me.

I bought mine, new, in the early 80’s. It’s a no dash. Serial # AAH94xx. I replaced the stock target grips (huge) with some Pachmayr’s.

This is my second pistol ever owned and my only revolver. It took quite a while to get used to the recoil moving up from a Colt Woodsman .22
I had put it away for sometime but came back to it after using a 1911 and a 12ga shotgun. The recoil does not seem so bad now.

After reading this entire thread, looks like I will order a Wolff spring kit.

Personally I prefer the Wilson spring kit to back up a nice trigger job, but to each their own.

I love my 686. Carry the thing everywhere. Slick trigger, smooth in every respect. The lock? No problem. Been thinking of buying some nice Hogue cocobolo grips for her.

Just got a 686-6 7 shot to replace an old 686-1 of my fathers that I lost a couple years ago. I forgot how amazing the single action trigger is, light as all get out!! I now remember why I love this pistol!!

I had a couple 6" back in the 80's but got rid of them since that is a longer barrel than I like. I got a 4" a couple yrs ago and just picked up a 2.5" today. the trigger is as smooth as anything I've got, can't wait to give her a go tomorrow.
