Thanks Dadams. I am really looking forward to it. Here's my 4" that goes with it. I tell you, I'd REALLY like to have the 586 - the blue is so much sexier.

Synthetic Grips

I have both Hogue Monogrips and Pachys, they came standard. At this time the Hogues are one. You know, come to think of I put the Hogues on and never got to the range to try them out. They are substantial. A handful so to speak. ;)

Count me in!

Yep, 686+, 4", pre Hillary Hole :neener:

Somebody way earlier in this thread said "dangerously close to perfect revolver," and I'd have to agree. I love my N-framed 625 and 629, but
they don't even approach being concealable.

I wanna go home early and just clean it and maybe pet it a little.... :)

I'll join up here as well. I have a 686-3 with numerous custom features that I picked up last year. It has had a trigger job, the forcing cone was shaped, the cylinder holes have been chamfered and it is Quad-ported on the 6" barrel.

I'd post some pictures, but all the screws are stripped and the finish leaves a little to be desired. Maybe for Christmas I'll send it back to S&W for a bead blast and looking over.

Anyway, its my favorite firearm.:D

Why haven't we seen this thread in a while? I love my 686 4" no dash! It goes nicely with my 19 and new to me 66. Let's see some more:)

I bought a 686-4 last month and have been trying to find this thread to join.
2.5 inch quad ported barrel 7 shooter from S&Ws Performance Center. What a great revolver!

The best version of the 686 - the '04 'Stocking Dealer Exclusive', a 5" half-lugged 686+ that came with V-notch rear and HiViz front sights and Ahrends square conversion cocobolo stocks. I don't like full lugs, so this was a 'must have'. Oddly, it was $10 less than a standard 4" 686+!

Hey folks! I'd like to join the 686 club!! I just bought my 686 this week, and it is spectacular! I love this gun! It is so beautiful, and the lockwork is amazingly tight and crisp. The trigger feels great to me, both DA and SA. As I was browsing this site a few days ago I came across Hexidismal's shiny 686, and I just had to do a buff job on mine. So, I bought some Mother's Mag Polish and also some Mother's Billet Polish, and I went at it. It took me approximately 17 hours to accomplish the below results. The first picture is a before/after. The second is obviously after.

I have eagle heritage grips coming this week as well! So, I can't wait to post another pic.

Cool, always neat to know I inspired somebody. Looks like you did a nice job, that is one pretty gun.

As a matter of fact I shot the aforementioned shiny gun just earlier today out at the range, and as usual the 6" 686 never fails to impress when I do my part right. 5" Steel plates at 45 yards with Rem .38+P HPs .. *ping* *ping* *ping* :D

Wow, going to have to do the Mothers polish route on my identical 6" as well. Did you need both the mag and billet polish? Did you use a buffing wheel, etc., etc.?

How are the 3 inch 686's with the smaller grips for iwb ccw? How do they compare to something like a 4 inch XD/USPc/P30/M&P/ect?

Yes I did need the Billet Polish ($18 for one can). The mag polish gave the gun an extremely clean look, but the shine didn't come until after a good round of the Billet polish as a follow up. And I didn't use any tools at all, just bought a couple micro-fiber cloths and went at it by hand. I think eventually I am going to take out the hammer and trigger and polish those with a dremel with the same polish (slowly and carefully).

And yes, Hexidismal, I very much appreciate the inspiration =)...

brockgl,
Nice job. I polished mine, but know it needs more after seeing yours. Are your hammer and trigger MIM ?

I imagine they are MIM, I just bought this gun new this week, so my guess is yes. Is there any way specifically to find out?
