The Aesthetics of GLOCKS: Butt Ugly or Martially Cool?

The Beretta 92 styling is from the early 50's.

See the M1951.

Neat. I recognize the overall shape, especially in the front and back end of the slide. Even the hammer. But wow, that's somehow an ugly gun. It looks like a Helwan 9mm. IIRC, the modern 92F came about in the 80s, no?

If Glock made vehicles:
My perspective is a bit different. Glock would be a production class sports bike. Made to be light weight and efficient to manufacture on an assembly line. Butt ugly construction, but it's all hidden under a plastic fairing, so who cares?

Why add weight and cost to the parts just to make them look nice, when you can make a better, lighter gun by putting all the parts INSIDE where they're protected? No sculpting, polishing, finishing. Just stamp out what works, with the wide tolerances allowed by plastic-to-metal contact. Can you imagine a Glock slide lever on a 1911? Or a Glock trigger bar on a 92F? They would look like crappy pieces of stamped sheet metal.... which they are. But on a Glock, they work just fine.

@ GLOOB: I was mainly joking about the boxy look of Glocks, which I think is ugly. That's not to say it's a bad design, just not an attractive design.

Lock the thread already. Glock this, Glock that. Glocks are the most talked about firearms, whether good or bad. Enough.

I have two of the best handguns in the world - G19/G26.

The End!

Compared to some classic pistols, Glocks are ugly. Whether this bothers you or not probably depends on how you view a Glock - for you, is it a tool or a toy?

I've said it before, so I'll say it again: My enemy will see only muzzle flash from the front, so to hell with how it looks from the side!

Glocks aren't just ugly guns, they are among the ugliest things ever made. Only marginally better looking than Hi-Points. Barely.

If you own a Glock, well, sorry.

If a Glock was pretty it probably wouldn't be reliable like most pretty semiauto,s.
That is why most of my pretty guns are in the safe and my G30 goes everywhere with me.

polymer doesn't have to be ugly

I really like the Glock's looks. I personally think a G17/G19 looks a teeny bit better than a 1911, but then again I came of age in the Glock era.

Glock aesthetics were a big factor in converting my wife from a mild anti to a gun owner and CHL holder. I kept a Glock 17 one semester for a friend who was attending college; my wife had the opportunity to examine it and basically told me "I don't like guns, but if I change my mind, I want to get one like that." She did, and she did. :D

It all depends on the person doing the looking. To this person they are butt ugly. Even worse than a Hi Point. I understand they are very dependable but I wouldn't know. If I am going to buy something it has to appeal to me both in function and LOOKS. Glocks don't.

Maybe not butt ugly but not a purty pistol. Does it job better than many so thats all that matters. I think ,I only have one pretty firearm and it got it looks after a rebuild.
