The pics kinda say it all.

My youngest had a blast shooting my truck gun 9shot astra cadix 22 revolver that I'd bought a year ago for absolutely no reason.

After a little instruction and getting him to lean into the gun instead of away from it he really started terrorizing the disposal dinner ware.

Anyway just some good pics I thought I'd share

Paid for itself it did!

And as the old saying goes, 'Take your kid hunting and you won't have to hunt for your kid'.

And just teach him:

"To ride, shoot straight, and speak the truth.
This was the ancient law of youth.
Old times are past, old days are done;
but the Law runs true, O Little son!"

Thanks guys

Soon both mine will have the arm length to handle a rifle. The youngest above is still a little short in the arms for his brothers cricket.

But a small revolver on the other hand appearantly works great for youngsters. The astra is a little notchy so he needed some help and attention when cocking the hammer to SA mode but he had no real trouble reaching and pulling the trigger.

Great photos and an even greater experience for you and your son. I started my son out sort of the same way, though I had him use a small semi-auto .22 to begin with. It wasn't long before he was ready for a larger caliber gun. Keep up the good work!

There is nothing like a father and son shooting in the outdoors. Well done sir, your son will treasure the memory.

Man, that's awesome! I've also found that even the micro youth rifles (in our case, the Savage Cub) are still to long in the LOP for the younger enthusiasts. But some of them can do real good work with a handgun, ironically.

Be proud!

R.W.,
One more piece of advice.

Tell your kids that they can go shooting with you ANYTIME, and you will get the ammo!

Let them know that a few of your guns are there to stop any bad guy that tries to hurt the family, kind of like a extinguisher.

But... that when you are not around, please do not touch the guns not tell their friends about the guns.

Do that and the guns will not be considered 'forbidden fruit' by them.

And then go out and shoot some more with them!

Oh yes from early on safety and the do not touch (without supervision) rule has Been stressed.

As well as general range safety. I stress finger out of the triggerguard till you're ready to actually shoot

I am glad you had some good father-son time together. However, please get him some eye protection!

Caught me.

We use it religiously but I'd left em in the other truck that day.

For that reason alone they didn't get to shoot the glock ;)

That's real cute but it still grates on my nerves.
I guess it is just too much trouble for some people to bother with eye protection for themselves or their kids. But I have been hit about the face enough with ejected brass from autos, hot powder granules from revolvers, and lead spatter off of hard targets that it really worries me.

You won't leave the eye protection in the other truck again, I'll bet!

Another bet... you'll never get so much good use from the amount of money you spent on that Astr .22 - way to go, dad!

I'm not bothered. They ain't telling me something I don't already believe in. Heck all my shoes are steel toed and even my sunglasses are ansi rated safety glasses.

That little 22 I paid like $250 for and aside from some age on the grips it looks NEW and has turned out to be the most delightful kit sized revolver and a great shooter to boot. Spanish guns when wrong are just sad examples of a lost industry. But when they're right they have a feel and panache like arms from nowhere else.

And you fellas can note safety glasses were in use today

This pic snapped just as the hammer dropped

Well done sir. The look on his face says it all. I wager he will relate that day to his son it years to come.
