This is very interesting, something I had never heard of...

If ever you wondered why the Founding Fathers added the 2nd Amendment, this answers that question as clearly as is possible. With the Obama administration working every possible angle to control firearms in the hands of we, the citizens, learn about or remember the Battle of Athens TN in 1946 and do everything you can, especially contacting your Representative and Senators, to assure our Constitutional Rights to own and bear arms is never infringed. Had it not been for a well armed citizenry, we would not have won our independence from the tyrannical government of England and would not be a sovereign nation. Just as it was in 1776 and again in 1946 in Athens, TN, it is not out of the realm of possibility that we may again have to defend ourselves against a tyrannical government.

Battle of Athens (TN) - 1946

I was completely unaware of this event that took place in Athens, TN in 1946. I did not know an armed revolt by WWII veterans ever took place during our lifetime. A very sobering video to say the least.

Now the second amendment is a little clearer.

Be sure to see the actual photos at the end showing the plaques describing the event.

We've discussed the Battle of Athens before.

In addition to this we should also look at the use of firearms during the Civil Rights struggle and the riots then and more recently to protect life and property. Without the ability to resist illegal action by groups, governmental or mobs, people are not able to protect themselves.
