The CCI .22 CB Short

The company lists the CCI cb shorts and the cb longs as having exactly the same ballistics. So the question is why even consider using the shorts when the bullet is going to have that much freebore? I suppose the cb shorts would be great if your rifle were chambered for shorts. That is the only time they might make sense.

I have a trapper friend who uses the cb shorts and shuns the cb longs. I think it is solely due to the fact that the trapping literature has recommened for decades that .22 shorts (regular ones) are the bullets used for killing trapped critters. This causes him great agony because the CCI CB shorts are often very hard to find around here. I can't seem to make him understand the CCI longs have exactly the same ballistics, may be more accurate, and won't foul his chamber as badly.

I would have bought some CB Longs, but the store didn't have them. You can find regular shorts from time to time.

More shorts will fit in a tube magazine!

I love shooting shorts and CB shorts out of my Henry lever carbine, I just wish I could find them cheaper in bulk.

I have some old Remington CB longs, and they cycle perfectly in a Marlin lever. The hammer falling makes more noise than the round report. I haven't checked for accuracy, but every varmint under 20 yds I've hit has been a head shot. They get the job done.

The answers are:

1. Greater capacity in rifles with tubular magazines, as already mentioned.
2. Much better shot-to-shot consistency with velocity; the little case burns the powder more completely and consistently than the CB Long case.

Accuracy is utterly unaffected by the freebore, in my experience.

Same for my Henry.
I've wondered a few times if I'd had a dud, in fact.
Anyone know a nice smoky .22short round so I know if the gun actually went "bang"?

No accuracy issues at ~20 yards, I haven't gone much past that so far with shorts.
Knocking over a row of bottles/cans with the "phut" gun is a blast!

I've been shooting pesky squirrels with CCI CBLongs. Much quieter than my pellet gun.
I'm using an old Winchester 68, and this gun puts these through one ragged hole at 25y and closer.

My testing has shown that the .22Longs do better in a LR chamber (obviously) they are not as common as CB Shorts. The Longs are worth seeking out for use in detachable box magazine boltguns but the Shorts are more fun in tube-fed leverguns.
