In a previous thread I went on about whether to trade my Sig 220 for a Glock.

I'm still leaning heavily to the G19....

But I was wondering how the competitors out there in the striker fired/constant action market compare to the G19.

HK P2000LEM
Taurus 24/7
Ruger SR9
M&P (even though I think it's ugly as sin)
Not really interested in the grip angle of the XD.

I'm going to one of my FFLs today to see browse around.
I am pretty sure I will end up with a Glock, but I have noticed the Ruger SR9, and if the LEM triggers are as good as everyone says - the ergos of the P2000 aren't half bad.

If price is not an issue, the HK P2000, IMO. I've shot them and they are great guns, I just didn't feel like shelling out a grand for one. I have an M&P and I absolutely love it. Can't say about Taurus or Ruger.

Just sold my G19 since I only use my XD (not on your radar screen but great ergonomics)

The M&P is a good striker fire gun (I will not own one, S&W went out of business as far as I am concerned when they capitulated w the Clintons)

Am not familiar w the Ruger or Taurus but have not liked their autos in the past

All this said, there is not a damned thing wrong w a G19. Outstanding gun, lots of aftermarket support.

I don't share your view of the M&P...I mean it is no better or worse than any of the polymer pistols as far as looks. I have two and they are great in all regards...ergonomic feel and pointability, excellent reliability, apparently pretty durable (somebody's somewhere ran 60,000+ rounds through one as fast as he could before it broke and what broke was fixable...time will tell), priced right, backed up by the best customer service in the business, and available everywhere. And, if you get in on one of their rebate deals, you get two more mags free as a mail-in rebate giving you a total of 4 mags for your out the door price. Shoot, I bet if you went to their website and downloade the rebate form, they'd send you two mags anyway, even if one of their rebate period has expired...their customer service is just great.

+1 on the Walther P99. One of the most comfortable pistols out there imo. Also, just as reliable as any other top manufacture. I'll agree that it is "snappy" in my .40 AS model (compared to my Sig 229 in .40,) but in no means difficult to control. In 9mm recoil is very tame to shoot.

My G19 is the most accurate semi I have ever owned. It makes me look good and I am indeed "bad"

Not sure you can go wrong buying a g19 glock. lots of good guns out there. Seems everyone compares their new models etc to glocks which has to be a complement to glock..

I have really changed my opinion of Glock over the last few years. First off -- inexpensive, 2nd lots of small parts to be found if need be & accessories as far as the eye can see.
Using this criteria, you can probably knock one each of your contenders until you're left w/ the Glock ;)

--- and that's from an HK guy

I will chime in on the elusive Taurus 24/7. I had one in .45.

My only issue was the front checkering, if you would call it that. It pretty much chewed up my fingers during a day at the range. A Hogue slip on cured that issue. After this, the gun was very comfortable if a bit larger in the grip.

What I found was that a plastic gun of this caliber was just not for me. Great ergonomics, fairly light fully loaded and comfortable to shoot I was just not able to keep it under control. This could very well be me and not the gun as I found I am much more proficient with my GP100 and CZ75.

When and if I decide to go back to the .45 I will be looking at a solid steel 1911 platform. This was my first and only experience with a plastic gun and may have tarnished my perspective. I wish I would have gotten a 9mm 24/7.

I ended up trading in the 24/7 on a SxS 20 gauge. Made more sense to me as I needed a shotgun for some upland hunting and HD.

Would I recommend this firearm, yes. It was just not for me. I am finding I prefer a hammer fired all steel gun more to my liking. An expensive lesson but one I learned from. I might take a look at a 9mm plastic striker in the future, but I will try before I buy this time.

If you want more info on these go to http://www.taurusarmed.net/forums/index.php

I take it you mean striker fired and or constant action ... in that case;

The P2000 having a hammer, IMO, gives it a leg up on striker fired pistols, reliability wise that is. The LEM is a nice trigger.

If I wanted a striker fired pistol, I'd get the Walther P99, but maybe not the constant action trigger QA...I'd perhaps rather get the AS, which operates more like DA/SA.

My vote would be for the great looking S&W M&P series. I have a 40, 40c, 9c, and very soon will add a 9. I find them 100% reliable, accurate, extremely well made, nice trigger, and very comfortable. As for S&W’s past sins under the Clinton administration… they’ve been under new management for years now. I live in the present, and presently, they’re a great company making an astonishing variety of high quality firearms here in the USA.

All are fine choices, IMO. My carry gun is usually a P2000, but I didn't pick it because it was the best. I chose it because it was the best for me. I'm going to recommend you go with what's best for you, even if every opinion in this thread runs contrary to what feels good in your hand.

From what I've felt HKP2000LEM vs G19....

G19 - Cheaper mags, cheaper price, trigger works for me, light weight, higher capacity

P2000 - other than aesthetics, is there any objective advantage?

Is this going to be a carry piece? I assume it is.
Just wondering because my 220SS would be one of my last guns to go. Shoots too good to ever even consider.

Ergos - grip angle more comfortable to a lot of shooters, interchangeable back straps, metal sights, trigger considered better by many.

Not to disparage the G19 - it's among the best fighting pistols ever made, perhaps the best, but you did ask the question...

The P2000 DA/SA trigger is unacceptable to me. I hate HK DA trigger pulls. I hate SIG DA trigger pull and it's way better than the HK.

I would be getting the LEM.
I don't see why people hate the Glock triggers.... they don't break as clean as a 1911/BHP, but they are so much shorter and lighter than the DA pulls on the Sig/HK, and the first shot is definitely one of the most important.

The piece would be used for IPSC and/or CCW.

Are any big name shooters using the HK to win competitions? Any uber-tacticool squads using the P2000/P30?

Gasp. While the Glock 19 is just fine, it doesn't even begin to compare to the Sig 220. While I have lots of favorite guns, the Sig 220 is in the top 5 and one of the most accurate out of the box guns I have ever owned.

yeah, wait a minute..... whats wrong with the SIG?
or do you just have the "need something new" itch?
220's are some great guns.

i know you dont like the looks of the M&P, and neither did i until i shot one. but then after absolutely falling in love with the f/s 9mm the looks grew on me a bit.

if you have not already, you really should shoot the M&P. it has amazing ergo's and is just plain accurate. very accurate.

and dont even get me started on the M&P .45's......

I've had a 9mm P99 AS for five years and it's by far my favorite handgun. I tried a G19, XD and Steyr M9 before settling on the Walther and don't regret it for a second.

While the Sig220 is a fine weapon, the Glock 19 is the better moustrap. My G23 has become my goto pistol. Despite the fact I used to be a 1911 guy.

There is no other pistol I'd recommend for family other than Glock.

The M&P, XD, SR9 still need some bugs worked out and a little more evolving to do before they'll catch up with the bricks. Some aftermarket parts support would be nice as well.

Still it looks like Glock is changing a bit with its 4th gen, stealing some of the others newer features.

Great gun; I carry I G27 everyday & love the Glocks. You can find anything for it @ Midway, Glockmeister, Brownells, etc... Extended slide release (20.00), Stainless guide rod (50.00), Novak low mount trijicons (150.00), Ambi mag release (N/A); or you could get all that (except for the night sights) on the Xdm for the same entry price. Either way you get a great gun; of your original choices I would definately go for the Glock.

Not really interested in the grip angle of the XD.

Interesting...the grip angle on the XD is a lot more comfortable to me. Everytime I grab a Glock I have to adjust my grip one time to align my sights properly and get a stable base. Maybe it's just because my hands are a little larger than most.
