Opinions:

In the United States, one of the favorite pistols for the Special Weapons And Tactics intervention teams are the 1911 pistols in an special modified version. This 1911 S.W.A.T. version in the .45 Auto caliber uses a single stack magazine of 7 to 8 rounds. In Europe is such a small magazine capacity not acceptable for special units. Current demands for European Law Enforcement are minimum 15 to 20 rounds. The 7.92x24 mm caliber is special made to fit in the 1911 frames. A High-Capacity 1911 pistol in the 7.92x24 mm caliber is a more accurate defense weapon against the modern types of body armor.

That's pretty interesting. I wouldn't mind converting one of my 1911s to 7.92X24 and seeing how it performs.

I noticed on the website they are currently developing a conversion kit for .45 ACP 1911s. Could be a pretty smart move if higher capacity and the 7.92X24 is appealing (and available and somewhat reasonable $).

Thanks for posting.

Take care,

Great! This'll start a "why the .45 is better than the 7.92" thread war. Interesting that they want the high capacity. And the fact that they'd create a whole new caliber, and not use 9x19.

I am as much a gunny as the next guy and I am as much a fan of all types of firearms as well but is capacity really that important in rolls outside of the military?

If you are in the military you will be required to provide suppressive fire, fire and move techniques etc., as well as engage a relatively large number of opfor. In civilian, LEO type situations is there really likely a need for large capacities in the real world in most cases.

This is a serious question not a snarky reply. How likely is even the average LEO SWAT operator likely to need more then 6-8 rounds?

Please suggest this to NYPD as I whole heartedly agree. Unless all 20 officers are firing 6-8 shots at one man then we have a problem.

Ohh and yes, I understand the have and not need philosophy as well as Mr. Murphy, and I am not even a 1911 kind of guy but I have a hard time seeing a situation where a good 7 shot 1911 with a spare magazine or two would be some sort of detriment......................................as Cslinger adjusts his XD45 with 14 rounds of .45 +P..... :uhoh:

I agree with cslinger. If you are worried about the capicity and penetrating ability of your sidearm, you are probably making your sidearm do something it wasn't designed for. (Where is your rifle?) It sounds like, rather than arm their officers with a big scary rifle that scares children and offends our enemies, we'll just pretend that a pistol can do the same job. (Sounds like Europe.) And that photo doesn't look like a 7.anything mm barrel. It looks like a full-bore .45. But what do I know?

Not sure I understand the response. Do you seriously agree or are you flaming. If the latter, I was not stating that I know the right answer only that I would really like to know from those folks who really do the dirty so the speak, as I am nothing more then a couch potato commando and not ashamed to admit it. :D

interesting looking ammo and gun. but seriously, isnt it just a slightly different .38 super power wise?

Sounds like a cool idea.
Maybe the cartridge has better armor peircing abilities than the .45 ACP or 9mm - it would explain the reason for just starting over with something new.
