Wow; You must have a nice magazine collection. Love those old ads. I've only seen one Johnson rifle in person and that was owned by a guy shooting next to me in a 100 yd. NRA Hi-Power match circa mid to late 1990's. It was in the standard 30-06 chambering and IIRC it got its owner a fairly good score. I've heard they were sold in other chamberings but I would wager they are even more rare than one in .30-06.

I went to a yardsale one year, and this guy had American Rifleman magazines dating back from late 40's to 1980's, and they were free so....I took them all. ;)

Yah, sorry about that. Man, I wish they were free, but one can dream.

There, corrected it, so no more double takes. ;)

Went to a gun show last winter and saw not one but two Johnson rifles for sale at different tables. However, I did not touch them. One was 5k the other was 6k.

Those prices always seem so good. However one has to know what the average working man made back then.

The average salary was $5,400 a year. Or just a bit over $100 a week. The minimum wage was $1 an hour and a dozen eggs was $0.89.

In general the cost of food back then was much higher than it is today.

I'm retired now, but my monthly income is the highest it's ever been. I'll take today's prices with my current income over prices in the past with my income then.

Please Sir no rush..please do not go out of your way.. Just the next time you are near them if you can give a looksee.. thanks, that is very generous of you..
I had some time today, so I went through what I have. I think that pistol was a one off, ever saw anything similar to it. I believe though this magazine is the one you are looking for if it has any info about that gun. I don't have it, but seems there are issues for sale on Ebay. I have scoured the internet with this image, and it points to this one issue that came out in 1958. Best of luck to you on your search. (now, I have to go and organize all those magazines, 100+ of all kinds and dates. wish me luck)
*Edit
I found more info on this pistol through Rock Island Auction site, under Unique Experimental Semi-Automatic Pistol. Its worth the read, and more likely then not, its the same info as the Golden State Arms catalog from 1958.

Look at those prices! I could have owned a cannon! Ahh the good old days. Too bad I was 19 years away from conception in 1963.

Wouldn't have thought we were the same age. I guess I am going to have to get used to thinking I am not young anymore.

That Finnish anti-tank rifle comes with free extra magazines! I would have bought 2 just because.
