I think it depends on the job at hand. I have shot many guns till they got dry using oil. that is one reason I use grease. You can shoot and shoot and shoot and it will stay in place and be less likely to cook off a hot gun.
That said, If I was using a gun for carry and just needed it for a mag or two, oil would be my first choice.
It is funny how so many people are all of nothing like a light switch. God was nice enough to give many of us a brain. It sort of seems like a good idea to maybe use it once in a while.
Things in this universe are rarely 100% anything. Use your mind, shorts in summer... parka in winter. Optimize!
