Snake oil:D

Ballistol is pretty much just mineral oil.

Most folks over lube their guns.

If you can see it (like the picture) it is too much.

Most of the new lubes have PTFE (Teflon)

Sig recommends Mil Com TW25b, just a tiny dab will do ya,:) Oil and grease, the oil it more than sufficient.

Put it on and wipe it off

Less is more.

White grease is too heavy. use synthetic motor oil if you want something that will last you forever

STP and ATF mixed 50/50.

Then I add plain jane axle grease to thicken it for sliding surfaces. I mix it as thick or thin as I want until I have a few different thicknesses for different applications. If you want Teflon, then add Teflon. I wouldn't bother, 'tis snake oil. Most gun oils are just homebrews anyways, theres' no sense in paying $10+ for some lame lube.

STP sticks to anything, ATF is great at taking care of dirt. I found lithium grease gets too hard when it dries, and attracts a bit too much dirt.

Yes & No...

Yes it is mineral oil and originally it was a coal based mineral oil. Being mineral oil and non-toxic I don't mind getting it all over my hands although the smell, especially when you aerosolize it can knock down a mule. I don't use it inside the RV when my wife is around simply because I really do enjoy sleeping inside.

The great thing about Ballistol from a Black Powder shooters standpoint is that it's slightly alkaline which will neutralize any left over acids from Black Powder residue that gets left behind like in the action. Also the stuff when mixed with water just cuts BP residue like a hot knife through butter.

Is it the best product on the market for smokeless guns?? Maybe, but probably not. That's why I started this thread in the first place and the information that has come out of it has been great, I would have never thought of ATF using only my own brain cells.

Yes, Ballistol is great for Black Powder guns and general lubrication. I have used it for years. It is also non toxic. I have it my arsenal of chemicals.

For 1911 slides I still believe there are better products.

ATF is used in Eds Red. I personally hate the smell of it. The thing about the "new" technology (synthetics) is the carrying agents go away but the lubrication agent (say Teflon) remains. I can lube up a gun put it away for years and it is read to shoot right out of the safe.

Now of course they are selling Nano technology and magic that gets into the "pores" of the metal. If one wants that then put some Molly lube on the gun and it is almost forever. Molly is some tenacious stuff.
