Ok i was talking with an old friend today. we used to run a machine shop many many moons ago. I was telling him about shooting black powder and how i would love to make one of those conversion cylinders for a revolver. We started to talk about it. Then i told him i also shoot inline bp. Then it hit us like a brick. He said how do they shoot whats the availbility. So in Theory here is what we were thinking.

A break down drop barrel inline. Kinda like the ones cva, nef make. With the interchangeable barrels. Here is the catcher. If one of those people made one in a .44. Shooting a size .452-.454 round ball or conical. Then by measuring the breach plug. Then shooting a primer only and measuring the depth. One could make a screw in tube made of hardened steel.

Take a steel sleeve thread it to the breach plug threads. Easy, cut to the proper length, machine the inside to act as a chamber for a lets say colt 45. Then on the outside of the sleeve cut 4 notches in it. Make a tool to fit in those 4 notches and weld a bar to it. This will act as the removal tool. Sort of like a choke tube for a shot gun. Then apply some antisieze remove the breach plug and screw in the sleeve. Take a colt 45 case with primer only. Chamber it close the barrel then fire it. Measure the depth of the firing pin to make sure it is not puncturing the primer As this would mean its out too far. needs to be machined more to let the round seat farther in. or tighten the sleeve. Then try a real colt 45. If i had my machine shop this could be made in about 1 hour for a rough fit, two hours for a really good one. then all i needed to do was to harden it.

So what do you guys think, anyone have access to a lathe, mill????

So if you were to do this with a 50 cal. My question would be whats the size of the bore. So you would know what cartridge would work.

Pros a lot

cons we were thinking accuracy would be questionable due to barrel twist. however, We are putting cartridge conversions on revolvers. Shooting black powder loads at slow rates may prove to be very accurate. Shooting light loads of smokless in maybe trailboss would be good too.

What do you guys think.
