Two days ago I pulled out the last big venison roast from the freezer. This particular piece was from a mule deer. It was a sad moment for sure. Then I struggled with how to use it. I thought about bringing it to work to smoke for the guys, then I thought about having family over to enjoy it, and finally, my 12 year old daughter proclaimed that we needed some jerky around here...so that was the call. It should be ready for the smoker tomorrow afternoon. Less than 90 days til elk season...

How much is left in your freezer?

None. We went through the meat very quickly this year, and didn't have much to begin with. My brother in law has been diagnosed as basically allergic to food, and venison is one thing he can actually eat so almost everything went their direction. What little burger I ground was gone before valentine's day.

Yeah I'm getting low too. Few packages of deer and elk. We butchered a goat a month ago to get us by. We will be very ready for an elk by mid October.

I never have game meat this time of year. Being single and living alone I give most of my meat away. What am I going to do with 700 lbs of moose? Not sheep though that's all mine:)

Six cow elk in the last 9 years. Never really kept any meat. What I got to take home for my tags was sunsets and sunrises at 8000' up in Arizona with a brother I law I truly like. He was a business man up on the Rim and always knew who needed meat. Within an hour of hanging an elk it was cut up and gone. I did make a lot of friends though.

I am down to my last cut of venison. Been saving it for some time but this weekend the tenderloin is getting grilled. Good thing archery season is less than 2 months away.

Retirement is good for the freezer.

Got a bunch and I eat it about 2 or 3 times a week. Arkansas upped the bag limit to 6 deer statewide. :D Then when my son-in-law wants to hunt we go to Missouri. That is 2 more tags. Usually don't have any tags left since I retired and went into hunting mode.

How much is left in your freezer?
Too much to know.

I know we're out of elk hamburger patties, because that's what I wanted last night. But we still have a good bit of elk hamburger, tons of chorizo, breakfast sausage, roasts, steak, fajita and stew meat, etc. Last night, I made some burritos and quesadillas with the browned, crumbled elk burger mixed in the beans. We eat game meat pretty much every night, have four freezers, and still have antelope, deer, trout, and a lot of elk for sure. When I get rabbits, they just get cooked up same day, so they don't count.

Ate the last of the moose Tuesday night. :)

I only killed 2 small (85 lbs.) does last year but had 7 deer from the year before. I don't know how much is left but it's not enough to get me through this calendar year without some more to help out.

Luckily bow season opens on Sept. 19th in my area and I drew some good permits this year. I still have some Italian sausage from a fat sow I killed last year so that helps.

"...going to do with 700 lbs. of moose..." Hunters feeding the hungry. Or whatever it's called. Ted Nugent's thing. Always thought that whole idea was good.

Freezer is FULL

Since I hunt hogs pretty much year-round here in central Texas, the freezer stays pretty loaded. Made ~15LBs of pork sausage this week. Still have several back straps and at least three hind quarters that need to go on the smoker soon.

The menu is all set for a dinner in a couple of weeks when we have some friends coming over. Gotta clean some of this stuff out so that I can go hunting again.

The venison has been gone from my freezer for a while now. When the boys were home we used to have several deer in the freezer after deer season. Now that they're gone, I generally only bring one home for me and ma. Making jerky makes it go fast.......

smooookeeer gooood, I'm completely out of everything. I used the last of my price meat last weekend and already am starting to panic.

Guess I have to suffer for the next 3 months with the stuff from a store that doesn't taste right.

I had a crappy season last year and only got 1 scraggly little 6 point. I love venison and it was gone in pretty short order.

I've joined a new lease this year and things look very promising. I'll have 6 tags and hope to fill them all. And I'm no longer the only hunter in the house either. My daughter killed her first 2 seasons ago and is now bugging me to death that she wants to kill one with my cross bow, so we're gonna give that a whirl as well.

I can't wait till my daughter is old enough to nag me for this. She's three and likes going to the trap range and watching daddy shoot.

My granddaughter went to an outdoors camp this summer and is hooked on bowhunting now. She's 9 and has drawn 2 permits for deer hunts this year. Her daddy doesn't hunt so I'm elected to take her. :D
