I have kids that range from 5 to 25 and they are all shooters and gun owners. My oldest son has two son's of his own and a larger gun collection than I. My second oldest son is an MP in the Marines and has a decent personal gun collection. My oldest daughter has just one handgun and I feel for the perp who ever messes with her. My youngest daughter just received her first .22 rifle on her fifth birthday, and she loves to go to the range.

All of my kids had to learn gun safety and the basics before ever receiving their own firearm. The message is to teach them young and teach then right.

My daughter on her 5th birthday:

I firs shot a gun for my 17th birthday and I shot an FA Uzi for my 18th. I'll have a gun sometime.

Sorry, no pics, but about a month ago, my pastor asked me to organize some shooting as part of a men's retreat. Spent an hour an a half around the fireplace introducing about 20 guys to the parts, nomenclature, and manual of arms of several handguns, from single action revolvers up through a full-sized 1911. Next day, deputized two friends with whom I have shot extensively and manned a make-shift range for a couple of hours. There were a number of complete newbies present, and we had a blast.

One young newlywed there really enjoyed the shooting, but said he couldn't think of a good reason to buy his own handgun. One of my deputies quickly responded, "You just married one!" Apparently, the first thing he said to his new bride when he got home was, "I think we should buy a gun!"

Amen brother. I need guns to protect me from my wife too! :D

Problem is she has the most powerful handgun in the house.

DubbleA.... If my daughter grows up to be that beautiful, I will have a few nice sniper rifles myself.

AKElroy my thoughts and prayers go out to your daughter and family.

Update

My daughter is home & doing much better after three days of IV antibiotics and anti-viral meds. She had viral sepsis; could have been untreatable had she gone another day without being admitted. Thanks to all for your thoughts & prayers; they WORKED!

AKElroy,

We are all glad your daughter is out of the woods! I never knew the meaning of "Love" until about 18 years ago when my daughter was born. Someone who you would unequivocally, unhesitatingly give your life for, without reservation or thought. I know you were worried and upset, I am sure your are relieved that she is better. I will pray for her rapid and full recovery. Best regards,

Jerry
