You knew it was coming. Just trolled the Brady web site and found this.

Washington, D.C. - Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement about yesterday’s tragic shooting in Omaha, Nebraska:

“Our sympathies and prayers go to the families of the eight who died and the five who were wounded in yesterday’s mall shooting in Omaha.

“Having an SKS rifle and high-capacity ammunition clips enabled a troubled young man to kill and injure a large number of people quickly and efficiently. Allowing the easy acquisition and possession of military-style weapons like this is foolhardy and the results are tragic.

“We need to find out how and where the killer got this gun and this ammunition. We need to stop selling military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips to civilians. The killer knew what he was going to do, and he knew what tools he needed. Our weak gun laws make these killing machines readily available. We can take steps to prevent tragedies like this in the future.”

Funny how they don't mention that the multiple laws he broke while committing thie heinous act didn't stop him. :banghead::banghead:

He was a convicted felon who stole them from his stepdad.

We need to stop selling military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips to civilians.

I didn't need Paul Helmke was in the business of selling guns, he can stop selling weapons if he wants to.

Our weak gun laws make these killing machines readily available.

Actually it was illegal for him to have one and he had to steal it.

Funny, the Brady Bunch regarded the 1994 AWB as a major triumph and yet this 50 year old rifle wasn't on the "evil" list.

SKSs are wood-stocked semi-autos without a fixed, 10-round magazine. If you didn't yet believe the Bradys are after your hunting rifles, this should make it clear.

This is a perfect example of why we need "reasonable restrictions" on the Media!!! This keeps happening over and over. Some disillusioned, depressed teenager thinks he'll always be a nobody and never amount to anything. He'll never be famous. So why not combine his wish to kill himself and his wish to be famous in one big violent act?? Hey, it worked for the guys in Columbine. It worked for the VT guy. It works for all the others who do this.

The media rushes out and prints the guy's name and photos and proceeds to read his notes/memoirs/etc. that people would have otherwise cared less about. This is NOT a gun problem! This is NOT strictly a depression problem! This is a problem with the media of this nation which feels it is appropriate to make someone who would otherwise be an insignificant speck into the famous person that they wanted to be!!!

The media needs to make it a point to no longer broadcast the name/photo/memoirs of these crackpots. To do so only gives them the fame that they wanted and sets a poor example for the next person sitting around at home, depressed, looking for a way to have himself seen/heard.

Now that I think about it, since SKSs usually have fixed magazines, I'm interested to know whether the shooter used a modified SKS with detachable mags. Since Helmke specifically mentioned "high capacity clips" in this release, if it turns out the SKS was unmodified this is a good chance to nail him for "profiteering from a tragedy" and shooting his mouth off without the facts.

Armed citizens have stopped such tragedies every time they were present, but as this doesn't fit their agenda, and with the leftist media firmly in their camp, you won't hear this side of the debate.

How many more lives must be sacrificed on the altar of "progressive" politics to promote their unconstitutional agenda before we shut them down?

It's no surprise that they jumped right on this before even one person could be buried . Helmke and the like make me sick the way they use tragedies such as these to further their agenda . But really , what else would you expect from a group willing to outright lie to push forward their agenda . Theres more I could say , but it's not exactly high road , so I'll leave it at that .

There was a Brady Bill II, wrutten after the passage of the original Brady Bill that required backgoround checks and wating periods for handgun purchases, and it did have an assualt guns ban, and the prohibbited capacity was eight, so PercyShelly had it right. Google "Brady II" some time and read what the Bradys had in mind to inflict upon us.

On the other hand, they are full of _____! It's too late to ban SKS's and since the majority of those are C&R, eligible, with the exception of the Chinese who manufactured new SKS's for the US market, and were already banned from import, there's nothing they can do. How many SKS's would you estimate, are in the US? six, ten million? All those are protected by the ex post facto clause in the Constitution. This means that Congress can't retroactively ban something that is al;ready legal. That is the real reason for "grandfathering clauses", NOT the generousity of elected officials.

All those are protected by the ex post facto clause in the Constitution. This means that Congress can't retroactively ban something that is al;ready legal.

Not at all. They can be made illegal tomorrow, all it means if you can't be punished for having them before it became illegal.
