The mighty 4506

My first handgun was the 645. loved that gun. was stolen in 89/90 or somewhere in that timeframe

I wouldn't hesitate to dump 4506 for G21 either.

No accounting for taste, huh? :p

I'd take my 1006 over my G20 any day and twice on Sunday.

The 4506 may not be a competitor in the plastic fantastic age with it's 2.5 lb weight, 8 round mag and lack of pic rail, but a more solid, robust .45 ACP there is not. It's about the only .45 ACP pistol which can run 45 Super bone stock indefinitely. My RP45 is the nightstand gun over my 4506 only because if I ever have to use deadly force to defend my family, I'd rather a $300 modern, soulless plastic gun be abused or shoved around on a shelf during any kind of investigation than a nice piece like the 4506.

My biggest complaint with the G-3 S&W Autos I am familiar with involved not only the weight and limited ammo capacity, but a really mushy trigger (and in the case of the 5906 I carried an amazingly regular FTE jam that inevitably tied the gun up big time). They are hell-for-stout pistols though!

If I had the choice of a 4506 and any Glock or other polymer gun, the 4506 would go home with me. I have a couple of polymer guns, but with the exception of my SAR CM9 Gen2, I don't really care about any of them. I like steel, and the S&W 3rd Gen guns are what I like.

I love everything about the 3rd (and 2nd and 1st) gen guns except the slide mounted safety.

After putting a number of already heavily used old smiths through the ringer I'm pretty sure if you could fit a rock or acorn in the magazine, it'll feed it.

I took a 4506 off a guy once on a workplace dispute call, back when the 3rd-Gen S&W series was still pretty new. I was half-tempted to keep it (it did go back to its owner pretty quickly when things were sorted out.) At the time, I owned a 659, but shot the agency's issued Ruger P85 a little better, so I wasn't carrying it.

I'd like to have a 4506 any day of the week. I do like all-steel guns.

I like the built quality and heft of those SW third-gen autos. Not a DA/SA fan in trad or decocker, so I gravitated to their DAO fare. After signing the Clinto agreement, one gun store had a .45ACP and a 10mm SW 3rd gen for sale at cost, and since they were used, a mighty low cost. I did not have the cash and kick myself whenever I think of the deal I missed. Shoulda put them on plastic.
