Be apart of the Mosin Nagant Club. A place for all mosin nagant talk. Post pictures, videos and etc.

here is one of my mosin project rifles.
i still need to cut the chamber, finish the stock, replace the bi-pod , add a scope & mounts.

the barrel is from a madsen light machine gun. it will be chambered in the 7mmx54R wildcat. i'll use my 6.5 vostok reamer with a 7mm pilot to cut the chamber then finish it with a 7mm neck & throat reamer.
the stock started out as a m44 stock that was busted at the wrist. the rear section is made from two sections of 5/16" rod that extend about 3" into the wrist. the buttpad is mounted to a slotted plate to make it adjustable for height & it can be adjusted for length by adding shims. i still need to finish shaping the area above the pistol grip then start working on the fore end. the bi-pod thats on it is temporary. it will get a parker hale type that mounts to a spud that sticks straight out of the front of the stock. i'm also going to make a short fore arm that will mount to the spud when the bi-pod isn't attatched.
it will start out with rock solid scope mounts & a leupold MK4 3.5x10 but eventually i'mm make my own mounts and rings similar to what the finn's used on the TKIV-85 mosin sniper rifle but i'll use a standard 60° dovetail with a talley style recoil stop instead of the sako style tapered dovetail that was used on the TKIV-85. i also have a timney trigger for it.

The Siberian Tiger and Svetlana

My M44 that I "scouterized."

After shooting the Siberian Tiger for three years, I modified her into a more traditional hunting rifle. I now call her Svetlana

Here is a photo of the sighting in after I changed the scope on Svetlana to a 6x-40 fixed power scope.

All the mods were done by me. The bolts cycles beautifully. I love to tinker with my M44.

Dirtyjim,
If there was an award for the funkiest commie gun mod ever it would be sitting on your shelf right now. I like it!

I took mine (M-44) to the range today. I was having problems either shooting several inches too high or too low. :cuss:

Then I put the bayonet back on.

Wouldn't you know it suddenly went back to hitting exactly point of aim?
I've been cussing it up and down for acting so wierd and all along she was just feeling naked without her bayonet!

Every time I take her to the range at least one guy has to come up to me and make a comment about having to actuate the bolt with a 2x4. That's of course before I start shooting. After they see the fireballs they tend to walk aaaarrrrrrooooouuuuunnnnndddd my station.

I worked on my bolt and it cycles like a dream now. I took it apart and polished all the bearing surfaces. I also polished the contact surfaces in the receiver. While the bolt was apart, I ground 3/16" off of the bolt spring. I used a grease with teflon inside of it to lube the whole thing up. I put the bolt back together and cleaned all the grease off the outside of the bolt and re-installed it. Nice and smooth.

Appe A day that's because most mosin nagants had the front site set with the bayonets on from factory. I bought some more ammo and targets for mine today. I hope to take it to the range soon and try to get the sights set on it. I have 60 rounds and 4 targets to work with.

My Rifle Pictures

If you want to see a picture of my rifle since it's been done look at photobucket.com under 4x4allstar

That is really cool, that you Nagant guys got a club going here. Those rifles for various reasons seem to be very popular these days. The only one I ever had was a Finn 1891 rework on an old Imperial Tzarist receiver, the rifle was VKT 1942 rework D barrel. It had those "Arshin sights" It was accurate and did not kick much, but I never got used to the ergonomics of the thing, I bought it in a Woolworth's. I sold it to a chicken farmer, demonstrated its accuracy by shooting at distant hay bales on his farm(hope he cleaned that barrel), he was impressed and bought it on the spot, but now I kind of miss it. You all should get a Nagant sniper shoot going, two man teams and engage targets up to 1000 meters with them, just to show what they can do with the right set up, reloads, bedding and all. That would be fun. Put it on Youtube.

I recall the first time I saw a Mosin Nagant, being held over the head of an angry representative of the Sand People after he ransacked my landspeeder...

Ill play. M91/30 and M44

They say pouchs match.. I do not see how.... The pouch is dated 1964 and the gun 1946 :scrutiny:
The m44 is a little off on shooting I need to adjust the sights.

Arrgg. Th gun smith reset my scope when it was set for 100 yards. I just went to the range on Sunday to see what I can do at 100 yards. Couldn't hit a thing thanks to that dumb gun smith bore sighting my scope. He must of bore sighted it for 25 yards or less. I also found out that after the 3rd round the magazine doesn't want to spring up the next round sometimes. Must be interuptor problems. Oh well I'm not dumping any more more into getting it fixed. And I'm not good enough to fix it myself. I still might get a bipod for it. I gotta do more testing to see if I need one. Looks like I should only have 3 rounds in the mag from now on since it won't load the 4th round all the time.

I just bought more ammo, bore cleaner and a bipod for my rifle today. It's a caldwell 6-9 inch pivoting one. It's really nice. It was a breeze to install. I plan on getting a new magazine for my rifle sometime so it will feed right. That is if I can find a magazine for it. I still might buy a 10-40 x 50 mm scope for it to yet. We shall see. That would be the last thing I would buy for it. That high power scope.

I just went to the range today. I couldn't even get the scope set for even 25 yards so I gotta buy a bore sighter and go sight it in at a 50 feet indoor range. I got it loading better by filing the stock down more but it still doesn't feed right. I gottas buy new parts for until and test it until I get it loading right. And if I ever think it's hard to load after I filed the stock I'll just have to do more filing. Let me know of what you think about my rifle since it's been done. Someone has commented about it the past 2 times I've been to the range. One guy said it's a sniper rifle and another guy said my gun is nice. Lol.

Those ATI stocks are crap. I still can't get the gun to load or feed right after tons of filing. I want to put a orignal stock back on it now. Those ati bent bolt kits are crap to. It jiggles like mad and then comes loose even if I loctite it. I need a full bent bolt body for it. I think my bsa scope can't handle the power of my rifle because it won't stay set at zero after I fire it after it's set right. Looks like I need a better brand scope to. Oh the head aces. : (

Mine started life as a $99.95 Gander Mountain POS. I refinished the stock from peeling/flaking shellac to 6 coats of boiled linseed oil and some 1/3 mix (1/3 BLO, 1/3 turpentine and 1/3 beeswax) stock wax.

Put a www.advancedrifleparts.com no-gunsmithing scope mount and a BSA Contender 3.5-14 X 40 scope on it which, by the way, has held zero for over 500 rounds with no problems whatsoever.

I also recrowned the muzzle as it was somewhat oval shaped when I got it.

The rifle in this configuration has turned in many sub MOA groups and the best one was a 5 shot, .393" group @ 100 yards in a hunting rifle match.

I have roughly $300 in this rifle including the mount and optics and I don't think I'd take less than $900 for it now as it shoots so well.

My scope is just a 32 plus dollar 3-9x32 power 22 speical scope by BSA. I think it's not holding zero because it as made for 22s.

Try bore sighting in the backyard before you go to the range.
You don't need a gunsmith, who probably uses the laser sighters in his small shop.
25 yard bore sighting is OK.
Then go to 50 yards then onto 100 yards for final adjustment.
Some good bore sighting articles on the Internet.

I used to have my scope set for 100 yards. Out of like 20 plus rounds I only made 2 bullseyes at 100 yards. The rest of the bullets went all over the target. Is it the gun or the scope? Lol. I had the gun on a bench and had a bag under it and was shooting for dead center every time. Now my scope needs to be reset.

If that gun is that piss poor of a shot at 100 yards I don't even want it anymore.
