Guys,
I just had to share this!
Stan Chen, remember that name.

Stan Chen said:
I’m personally a huge fan of the 38 Super. It has fantastic accuracy potential, feeds well in the 1911 platform, and is a joy to shoot in extended practice sessions.

And so it was a pleasure building this pistol on a NRM Colt Gov’t. Model in 38 Super. The idea was to build a totally practical pistol that subtly makes a statement, yet is not too far over the top. Bluing by Yost-Bonitz and photography by Chris Marona.

All machine work was done in house. Many thanks for looking, hope ya like it!

Flat topped slide and bordered arrowhead serrations at 40 lpi. Low mounted, dehorned Heinie sights. Another view of the fluted slide.

Tapered ‘tear drop’ flutes cut on a straight profile barrel.

High cut and ‘Golfballed’ frontstrap and MS housing. Done in house, with permission from concept inventor, the one and only Chuck Rogers.

Mag well bevel was cut as far as possible into the MS housing. Note the absence of the vertical knife edge (at the back of the mag well) common to this type of modification; here we have just a smooth, continuous ramp into the well.

More pics here (seems I was exceeding board limits)

A quick note....This pistol features a rather unique method of slide to frame fit. It has true, square, optimal bearing surfaces (and other special design features), yielding a tight, smooth, extremely long lasting fit with total reliability. No peening, squeezing, rods, or lapping together of parts is involved. Details forthcoming when my website launches.

Oh BTW, I used to post here as 'Litespeed', no nefarious reasons for the name change, I'm just sorta tiring of internet aliases, so here I am with my name.

Thanks again for looking!

Stan

Wow. Be still my beating heart. This guy must be channeling my dreams, because there it is!

I first saw that one yesterday morning and I still pop in again to look at the photos to spot details I missed before. I'm loving the crown and bushing. :)

Stan truely made a wonderful pistol.

Chuck, you put out some pretty flippin' wonderful pieces of art yourself.

Chuck - This sure is nice and as a safe queen Custom it from the pictures is at least near the top.

Ror discussion purposes however to be the best ever I would like to know how it runs with what, what kind of groups it shoots and how the sights pick up for rapid target aquisition for the owner. How does it run in blowing sand with the flutes and the fit?

For it to be the best ever or even the best Series 80 - in my opinion - it needs to also function as good as or better than the Series 80 I have seen that you did (for a Denver cop) which shoots small groups rapid fire, runs in blowing sand all week at Gunsite from a Kydex holster, Series 80 parts function, excellent trigger, does El Presidente's in excellent times - and - really looks very nice with all that use.

Pretty gun, but undoubtedly not the most outstanding custom 1911.

This pistol features a rather unique method of slide to frame fit. It has true, square, optimal bearing surfaces (and other special design features), yielding a tight, smooth, extremely long lasting fit with total reliability. No peening, squeezing, rods, or lapping together of parts is involved.

This sort of troubles me. Since the frame and slide are Colt, then the rails were not specially cut, but are simply modified Colt cut rails. I do not perceive how the fit can be true and square if it did not already come true and square. To be made true and square, no doubt metal will have to be removed. This will result in a fit that is not as tight as it was before removing metal - the removed metal producing a gap. So the gap would have to be closed-up in order to have a tight fit. How is this achieved without peening or squeezing? I would like to hear more about the rather unique method that can handle and correct all this.

On top of that, I would guess that the original gun was probably not very tight judging by the new Colts I see at gunshows. So not only will the original loosenees need to be corrected, but so too will be the metal removal to get things squared.

Stan mentioned the "secrets" to his slide frame fit would be revealed soon. I'm curious myself as I'm sure it will open up some interesting conversations. :)

Perhaps he welds up the frame rails and then cuts back to fit the slide??

Wow!!!!
You guys are TOUGH!

I guess I should have titled the post:
"A fairly nice gun."
Of course, no comments from Tuner or Fluff..........
;)

Of all

The decortive things done, the mag well as a functional item is very impressive. Out standingly imagative and executed work. Most impressive indeed.

From an owner of a 70 Colt Comp, this is too pretty to shoot..... ;) But, I would like to try....

I don't know about function, but it skyrockets the 'coolness index'. :)

Its a work of art. All that work is like the engraving you see on some guns...

A lot of effort went into building a BEAUTIFUL pistol, and giving it features that are likely to make it a wonderful shooter.

But you just KNOW the darned thing's not going to be shot more than once a year, during a range session to impress friends. (At least, that's what I'd feel compelled to do, unless I were very, very wealthy.. <grin>).

beautiful 1911, I would like to have a few extra add ons like that to my 1911. Unfortunately I can't afford things like that. I want to have to many toys and I would only have one if I had that one then what would I shoot for target fun. :(

If I were lucky enough to own it...I'd shoot the heck out of it!!! :) I have never bought a gun, to live in my safe! I gotta go with Chuck..this is one of the nicest 1911s I've seen on the net, and it is 38 super! I want it!

Mark

I'm not a 38 Super fan but I could be. If it was mine I'd be putting 300-500 rounds a weeks down range with it.
