The mother lode for percussion caps

No, it means you arrived in store when one of the rare shipments had arrived. My advice would be to rush back down there and buy some of it.

As I understand this stuff it's not so much that there is a shortage from the manufacturers but that the public is buying so much and so fast that dealers can't keep things in stock and makers can't keep up with the demand. So when you find product on the shelf that is an item you normally use it's worth buying some even if it'll be a while before you need it.

I'm down to about 300 caps at this point. My local supplier has none and doesn't know when he will have any. I've left him with an order in place for a box of 1000 and left it at that since the 300 I have should last me for a good part of a year yet given that the rainy season is upon us so the BP guns will be resting in anticipation of balmy and drier spring days and the summer that follows.

But for the rest of you?

Cowboy Shooter Supply has them in stock.

and congratulation to you Mr McGee for winning the Missouri Frontiersman Championship.

Check with Powder, Inc. in Clarksville, AR at http://www.powderinc.com or 877-833-1799.

They are expecting a shipment in two weeks for RWS #11 caps.

They went through 44,000 Remington #11 caps in six days @ $ 85.00 for one thousand caps, which included shipping and HazMat. If you subtract out the $ 29.50 HazMat, & shipping @ $5.50, the caps would be $50/1000 caps/10 bxs. So, a box of caps nets out to $5.00 per box.

If you pool an order with two or three friends and buy 5 pounds of GOEX @ $122.00* or buy 10 pounds of GOEX @ $190.50*, you can add 1 carton (1000 caps/10 bxs caps) or more, and the total order shares the HazMat Charge.

*Prices are including HazMat and shipping.

Tell them, "Buck sent me".

There is a shortage because of panic buying and people purchasing when they don't need it.
So your suggestion to the problem is to panic buy when someone doesn't need it?

Gee, I wonder why this problem persists.

As you say the issue is those that don't need them buying as much and fast as they can. And it's not like I suggested that he snap up the whole stock.

But, hopefully, we here are the ones that actually shoot and will use them in a reasonably timely manner. So we would not be the hoarders and as a result would not be part of the problem. At least I assume that elhombreconnonombre is one of the shooters and is likely in need of a re-supply since he's not had much luck finding any recently.

shoot, I go through a tin to a tin and a half of Rem #10 a week, or more if the boss is off playing with the grandkids. You don't realize how fast you go through them until you take 3 or 4 C&B revolvers out with a buddy or two for a range session. Thankfully, I have enough rock lock pistols and rifles to tide me over while the panic buying ends. But for me to buy 1000 or even 5000 is not hoarding. It's just stocking what will be shot in the near future......

I think it really makes things easier to have a good supply of ammo, powder, caps, etc. on hand. As an example if you're only seeing caps every 6 months I don't know about you but I'd want more than that on hand, whatever that means to you. Maybe it's one tin. Maybe it's a dozen.

Where it gets crazy, as another example, is I have a friend who bought a couple of containers of trail boss because it was pistol powder. He got home, Googled it, and realized he had no use for it. (I eventually took it off his hands cheap).

Somewhere in there is the dividing line between preparation and panic.
