The new 942

Huh, so they're gonna have 3 inch models with an Aluminum frame and they're all 8 shots with an projected MSRP of 350. That's a street price of 200-250, and is a lot less than the Ruger LCRx .22's, which if you're a .22 Mag fanboy, the Taurus would hold two more shots.

I have been wanting an 3 or 4 inch 8 shot DA .22 LR revolver with a decent trigger. The Charters would fit the bill if they were available in 8 shots, but they're not. The Ruger is a bit pricey for what it is and used ones are tough to come by, but $250 for an all Aluminum frame Taurus? Yeah, unlike Hall and Oates, I can go for that.

It would be nice if you could switch between the two.
For the purposes of being able to shoot it during a panic, yes, but otherwise I can't say that the .22 Mag cylinders I have in my convertible revolvers have been all that reliable. It's probably an ammo issue, but with three different single actions, I've had a higher percentage of failures to fire with .22 Mag than I have .22 LR.

If you really want a .22 Mag, I would just get it in .22 Mag. You can still shoot .22 LR in a .22 Mag, it's just going to exit the barrel a few hundred FPS slower than if you had shot it in a .22 LR chamber.

In my experience a 22lr fired from a 22 mag cylinder almost always results in a split case. That's a problem.
I won't do it again.

My then neighbor the gunsmith found himself with a .22 WMR Colt and no LR cylinder. He didn't want to shoot all Magnums but he didn't like split cases, either.
So he took a tubing cutter to some WMR empties and made chamber bushings.

Aluminum cylinder or steel?

If steel, this might be a real winner for around $300.
Aluminum frame, steel cylinder. Steel frames will also be available, but they'll be heavier.

Don't really need the extra heft of steel with .22 LR, maybe .22 Mag if you shoot it a lot.

Well shucks. I thought the thread title was going to be about an S&W 942. Which would have been an Airweight Centennial J Frame in 9mm.

However, this also looks appealing. I like 22 magnum in a small package.

Yeah, I fell for it too. Thread Title Trickeration!!!

It is good to see the small frame .22 from Taurus is back. Hopefully, they'll make some 3" and 4" barreled versions. With better looking grips. I can't stand those grips, look like instant throwaways.

Edit to add: Those grips look better in the videos I just looked at. Maybe in person those grips are much better than what I can see online.

The new 942 will be available in 3 inch barrels.

I want to see the target with any cal. at any distances. I would be an interesting topic.

not with the LCR comparatively. I guess Ruger has a patent on their trigger system.
The trigger would be smoother and make it feel lighter, but it would still be relatively heavy cuz rimfire.

I would mostly be shooting this in single action anyway. Even tho I have single action .22's, the swing out cylinder makes reloading so much faster.

Don't do that to me! I saw new 942 and thought S&W was coming out with a 9x19mm version of the M442.
