An excellent thread, "Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers" was started on 6-21-08 by Moderator Emeritus, Brian Williams. This has been an invaluable source of info for the above stated & titled thread.
Most recently, Radagast has been providing superb information on this subject.
His last entry #6775 was on 4-8-17. He was last seen on THR 4-9-17.
Requests continue to flow in, but no info has been forthcoming.
One can surmise the possibilities.
We wish him and his family well.

Hopefully someone on THR, with the necessary resources will "step up to the plate", and furnish requests for info.

I recently purchased a S&W Combat Masterpiece (pre- Model 15) with a heavy (not full lug) barrel.
It is a re-blued .38 Special, 5 screw, 6 shot, with checkered walnut grips. Serial # K 117XXX on the bottom of the butt.

Any info is appreciated, especially date of manufacture.

Thanks.:)

We are not talking about the same thread and/or contributing member.
I re-checked and all the info in posting # 1 is correct, but mainly looking for requested info in the OP.

Serial # K 117XXX was shipped from the S&W factory in 1951.

The Combat Masterpiece was manufactured from 1949 to 1999. The upper sideplate screw was deleted in 1955 and of course it became the M15 in 1957.

Sorry but that's all I have.

You're welcome. I answered a few of the posts in the original thread too. I use to answer the posts until Radagast started answering them. He seemed to enjoy it so I stepped aside. I will help out where I can.
