I would like to thank all of you for educating me on the 1911 pistol. After considering all that I have read, here and elsewhere, I have decided on a Ruger SR 1911.

I stopped by my LGS today, and I had missed one by two hours. My name is on the top of the list for the next one that comes in.

Good luck with that my friend. I'm second on the list at my favorite toy store. I've been there since June 25th. I hate to say it but I'm losing interest in the SR1911. There's plenty of other great 1911's out there.

Personally the Remington R1 looks like a great model in the same price range to me... then again Remington has been out of the pistol making process for what 60+ years? Ruger on the hand has stay true to the handgun market.

There were 2 SR1911s on sale at my local shop. They wanted around $749, is that about right? Seems high.

Figures, this particular store is known for huge markups. Maybe I will try to haggle them.

MSRP is $800.

Real world prices have been hovering a little over $600.

I'd pass on $749.

I was looking for one, and I thought I'd try a new gunshop I havent been to before. They quoted my $850, I politly thanked them and hung up, I will never bother to call them again. I know that the SR 1911 is hard to find, but price gouging on a hard to find item is unaccecptable.

I had one in my hand but passed on the chance to buy it. People's desperation is pushing the price up. I'll wait a few months until the craze dies down.

You would think Bend of all places has nice and low prices ...

I am really wanting one of the Ruger/Taurus type companies to come out with a full line of 1911s, just to see where a company that isn't invested in JWB worshipping can take the platform in terms of availability and variation. Sig does some nifty suff but well ... They can't have my money. 8(

If you just gotta have a Ruger, fine. But like racinbob sez, there are more fish in the sea. For the same price, you can buy a quality Springer, Kimber, Sig Sauer 1911 and all are great pistols. I own 3 different and I wouldn't sell either the Sig or Kimber.

I just sold a Taurus PT1911 which is a great 1911 in the $500 price range and it will give you years of service.

Find one you like and don't get gouged like it looks like their trying to do.

I looked into Springfield. They have plenty of models, and I am sure that one can find a quality pistol there. I got lost more than once trying to compare one to the another. I may go that way for a second 1911 once I get more comfortable with the platform. but the SR 1911 seemed to have what I was looking for.

There are many more negative than positive reports here and on other venues that took Kimber out of the running. The many issues noted with quality control and customer service at Kimber removed it from the table. Honestly, I have not heard or read anything one way or the other about the Sig Saur.

longhair75;
You'll be real happy when you get the SR1911.... Very nice handgun. :D
I really like mine :p

Good Luck,

Lateck,

I ordered my SR1911 from Impact Guns in June and received it two weeks ago. I paid $629.00 plus $20.00 shipping. No credit card upcharges. It was worth the wait. I'm no 1911 expert but I really like this pistol. Shoots great.

Yeah, there are plenty of 1911's out there. But none fit the bill like the Ruger does. It has the exact features I want.

I'm in no hurry. I'll kick back and wait until I can find a Ruger locally for a good price.

If you want one just wait you will get it. They are worth the wait. Check around for shop in your area that is going to have a Rugers day weekend, I bet you will see a few of them.:)

I was at a gun show, a LGS, and Cabela's today. Zero Rugers anywhere. The small local gun shop said they've had a total of one SR1911 since they came out. Cabelas said they originally received six that didn't even last a day.
