Ruger SR-1911 vs Armscor/RIA/Citadel 1911

I have owned both, and I'd go with the Ruger SR-1911. My RIA is nice, probably just as nice as the Ruger but the Ruger is made in the U.S. and is stainless. My brother still owns the Ruger and he loves it.

Both are reliable, high value, accurate guns. Never had a problem with either of them. I do think the fit and finish is a tad better on the Ruger and of course, they are very prompt with customer service if you ever have a problem. I also like how the plunger tube is integrally cast on the Ruger frame... seems like a better system to me but I'm a novice.

The safety on the Ruger is definitely easier to work, not as bulky and does not have the sharp edges of the RIA. I think it's a better looking gun as well. Just my two cents; can't really complain about my RIA and I can tell you both are staying in the family.

I've had maybe ten different make 1911's, including my current SR1911cmd. I've either sold or traded all the others. The Ruger is not only good-looking, it likes any brand magazine and any brand ammo and has never malfunctioned in 500 rounds. My quest for the perfect 1911 under $1000 has ended.

What are they going for these days? Although I bought mine last fall at my LGS it involved a complex gun trade. Ended up $100 out of pocket. Perhaps I should call them in order to ascertain what price they had on the gun the day I walked in.
