Any of y'all have a rifle that you just can't get rid of? I'm not talking about guns with sentimental value. Those are a given. I'm talking about a rifle that just stays with you like bad Chinese food. You don't love it, but you don't hate it enough to get rid of it. Or heck, maybe you do love it. And you hate it, but at any rate, it just sticks around through the years in spite of not really being a favorite.

For me that rifle is my SCAR-17. I don't hate it. I actually like it quite a bit, but it's hard to justify keeping it when there are other guns I want that I would get more practical use out of. I've offered it up for sale or trade a dozen times, and I've been offered some awesome trades, but I just can't let it go. Anybody else have a rifle like that?

I really don’t. If a gun doen’t perform, it’s gone. If the gun doesn’t fit me, I don’t buy it. I don’t settle for mediocre accuracy in any platform.

M6 Scout, not really fun to look at, less fun to try and shoot accurately but I guess you can’t have one of everything without one..

Maybe we should trade ;)

I dont have any.
I buy and keep guns bassed on how much i enjoy them. I only own one rifle, and one handgun i havent replaced in the last 5 years. Only those two guns will i say for sure will be here in the next few years.
Everything else is fodder for the next gun, cartridge, project, or idea that interest me.

Mine is the PTR-91. I bought it because I've wanted an HK91 since I was a kid and was really excited when I finally got it. But there have been a couple of frustrating niggling problems need to work out and in the long run, it isn't as interesting as I thought it'd be. Part of that is because other projects have been taking up my time and money. Part of it is, I wish I'd gotten a real HK instead. But I can't get myself to offer it up for sale.

I'm pretty sentimental about guns. If I get something I either grow really attached to it quickly, modify it till I do, or I sell it within a month or two.

The closest thing would be my Savage. I often go quite a long time without using it but I'm not open to the idea of not having it since it serves a purpose, even if I don't use it very often.

My Tikka CTR in .308. It's heavier than I like for mountain hunting, and I'd really rather have the same rifle in 6.5 CM for target shooting or flatland hunting. I've thought about selling it several times and getting out of .308 for good, but it's just such an accurate, easy to shoot hammer of a rifle that I can't let it go.

My Marlin 1894CB in 32 magnum. I wanted it really bad when I bought it. Its smooth and accurate or at least it seems to be. I haven't shot more than a hundred rounds through it. Its like new and worth almost 3 times what I paid for it. If it wasn't so much trouble to ship a rifle I would list it on GB and sell it. I just like my Marlin 357 about 10 times better. The 357 is my favorite gun.

Go to shipmygun.com. They make it very painless.

I'll play. My model 70. It is in 7mm Win Short Mag which is almost impossible to find and not really all that good at anything in particular and the trigger is darned awful but... With the thumbhole stock its pretty and has potential so...

I bought a Yugo SKS many years ago, along with 500 rounds of non-corrosive ammo. I haven't been bothered to take it to the range even once, even though I did spend the better part of a couple of afternoons getting all of the cosmoline off of it. Maybe one day I will sell it, but I haven't been bothered to do even that with it.

Yeah there's a stainless Marlin 1895 JM guide gun in the safe. I like the handiness of the gun, but it's ported, which I hate. I might get rid of it someday as I have plenty of other hunting rifles.

I had a stainless m6 .22lr/410 it was a gun that I thought I had to have and soon realized it wasn’t practical for just about anything. If I were to need one gun to survive with, I thought to myself I wouldn’t even pick it so it got turned into a Winchester 9422 on trade. Much happier now.

I have a SCAR 17 in the safe too that I wonder about, but every time I think about trading it for something else, back she goes. I have a few SHTF AR15s, the SCAR 17 is for when the S-REALLY-HTF, or something like that.

Savage 10 PC in .223. It's been shortened to 16" and had a brake installed. I love the way it shoots, but it's loud and is still a little on the heavy side to tote around a lot. It may be a future rebarrel project, I just don't know what to.

Weird relationship we have with these SCARs, huh?

I bought a Stevens 89 back around 1988 or so at a gun show. It's a .22 caliber faux lever gun based on the "Crackshot" falling-block model. I really didn't know what I was going to do with it. I paid like $30 for it.

I've fired it maybe 50 times, mostly within the first few months. But, it's still around.

Rem 700 .270. Gun was incredible until I stuck a case really bad and had to beat the gun apart (4 pound maul and 30" aluminum rod) and since then I can't get it to shoot decently and it just frustrates me. I would love to move it and replace it but it's my first "major purchase", my first centerfire rifle, and represents my first "job" mowing lawns to earn money for the gun. I hate the gun now but I just can't bring myself to part with it...close but no cigar.

Model 70 supergrade 7mm mag. I bought it when I was a velocity flat shooting freak. Now I don’t want the crap kicked out of me and like to hoard ammo in common calibers. (I shoot 308)
It’s a beautiful hunting rifle, just the wrong caliber for me. I can’t stand to trade it down or take a bad offer for it just because of the quality of it. It really kills me that I don’t love it because it’s the highest quality bolt gun I own.

Yep, a Rossi 92 carbine in .45 colt. I bought it in 1996 to use as a saddle and truck gun. Thing fits me better than any rifle I own and I can point shoot that thing amazingly well. For some reason I sold it to a fellow at work in 2000 and hated myself for doing it. I looked at some others at the gun store and they had changed the front sight just enough that I didn't like them. I talked him into selling me that rifle back a year later for more than I sold it for. Still with me and was in my saddle scabbard until lately, now goes with me in my truck.

I have a Rem 700 Stainless Light Varmint in .223 Rem that I both love and hate. It shoots fine, but the bolt opens/cocks hard and the stock has relatively sharp edges that cause it to not be comfortable to carry, especially with a sling. I let a neighbor use it to shoot coyotes, but she never shot one and returned it to me after about 3 months. I almost gave it to her, but decided to keep it for a while.

Meanwhile, I bought another .223 700ADL NIB from a discount house for $240 with crappy scope; which I couldn't pass up. That rifle shoots as accurately as the Light Varmint and is just as light, but it sling-carries much better, so has become my go-to, walkabout varmint rifle, but sports a Leupold 3-9x instead of the crappy scope.

The Light Varmint that I paid $500 for could go to anyone for a very reasonable offer and I wouldn't cry about it.
