Here is a new subject to study a bit it is birch wood oil, being called essential oil.

Availble in bulk now for large amounts a lot cheaper than in the past.
The availability is fairly new, it has been hard to find in the past. And expensive to import.

Some think it is the oil used in the Finn made rifle stock oil with other unknown ingredients like linseed oil, turpentine & naphtha.
It is a lessor grade of oil compared to pine tar & expensive. It has the wood smoke smell so familiar with the Finn finish.
With the dark brown-orange color known in birch oil..
