Got to thinking about this and looked it up, some good reading about the Rangers their weapons and stories about most of the men who started this great organization,
http://www.legendsofamerica.com/we-lawmen.html.
Thought it fitting to post it here, as it is firearm related, If I was wrong sorry.
Some of the pictures are worth looking at, remind me never to complain again. These guys worked 24/7 for little pay. Includes the names and bios of each man. Many were ex outlaws, and some went that way after their Ranger life. Interesting stuff.

If you ever get the chance, go visit the Texas Rangers Museum in Waco. http://www.texasranger.org/ I grew up watching "cowboy" shows on TV, and when you see so much fictionalized "history" you tend to view all such history as fanciful fiction. Go into the museum and look at the exhibits, like the rifle used in the rifle duel that killed Sam Bass. It gives you a much greater sense of reality for some of the incidents of actual history that are even more exciting than the fictionalized accounts.

Been to the museum in Waco. Lots of cool exhibits and even Chuck Norris' clothes from the TV series. Nice movie inside and a gift shop too. I'd go back a second and third time.

I've always wanted to stop at the museum when I pass thru waco but never have, mostly because it's either near the start or near the end of a very long trip. Maybe i'll have to make a special trip just to see it.

Growing up there, I had the priveledge of knowing and shooting with a few of them. Gene Graves...Sid Merchant...Bob Favor... and Ben Neal. They were a differentbreed of cops....Ben, I owe my life too....did an unauorized request for 3 subdural hemotama removal...out for 11 days!Had a hispanic buddy that had a private collection of old Ranger stuff that few gringos ever got to see!
Dan

Thanks, Ben.........where ever you may be...................................................

Read "The Texas Rangers" by Walter Prescott Webb. Covers from the 1830's to the 1930's. Found a copy at the used bookstore for $7.00. good read.

Longknife, that was very cool, I didn't know that "Doc Holiday" was also an expert with the blade. He is documented to have cut a mans stomach open during an altercation at a card game with the long blade he carried before the man could draw his gun. He was deadlly with both, and self taguht later in life than most would think. He seemed to be very good at anything he did, must have been exceptional aptitude with his TB wearing on him.

Some years ago I had the privilege of organizing a campaign event for GWB when he was still governor of Texas. His security personnel were Texas Rangers and some of the classiest nicest guys you'd ever meet. These guys were physically fit and dressed to perfection. We need more like them....

Yea, they sure have some good guys. I went to Jesuit Dallas, and during our last alumni homecoming, there was a good 4 or 5 guys there who were in the Rangers. Pretty impressive.
