I'm calling on all you folks to help me out. Looking for a semi 12g that would meet a a wide range of uses. Upland, turkey, and maybe something that I could use to get started in a shotgun "game" of some sort. I have 2 mossberg 500's and a 870 20g that all do what they were intended to do. Took a turkey with one of the 500's this spring and the thing never twitched. Even though my father doesn't like the "look" of the camo I'm trying to talk him out of a camo semi. I think that for a all around gun we should go without the high priced camo. So, my question is: what would you recommened for a semi that could be used for these purposes? I know that skeet , trap, and clays gun are specialized but something to get started. thanks to all

Any of the major brand semi-autos will do the job. My first choice would be the Beretta 391 but the Winchester Super X2, Remington 1100 and the Browning Gold all have their fans. For clay targets, choke tubes and a longer barrel are generally preferred with 28'' being considered the minimum.

Don't get too preoccupied with specialty guns for each clay game. I've gone that route but in the last year have been shooting one gun for all targets and my scores have improved across the board. Any semi will do just fine at all the games.

thanks Paul. I was thinking of the Beretta as a first choice. Thought it would fit nicely into all of my needs. I'm sure that any of the old standbys would do the job, and you are right about the one gun theory. I was once told "Learn to shot one well then go from there" sounds like that still stands.

Paul's right on the money. Only dissent I have is if a Practical game is in the offing. Then I think the 1100 moves to the front due to aftermarket stuff being available.

Or if a used 1100 became available cheaply, I might just grab it, add one of the Hastings overbored trap barrels w/ tubes and a stock that fit me, and go kick clay butt at all the games. Total cost would be a little less than a new 391, Gold, etc...

I'd see which fit me best first. (figures I'd say that huh?)
Partial to SX2 myself for an all rounder.
Don't overlook the used market either, I prefer 1100's over 1187's. Beretta is nice in that 391, but an an old 303 is a great secret.

I'd try to shoot some at a club, mounting and dry firing different than actual shooting...plus its fun!

Im not going to waste your time writing 4 paragraphs on my love for the SuperX2 3.5". Mine has served me well. I cant emphasize enough on how much I love it.
