The "Permission" to Keep and Bear Arms

Well, I'm still around. I guess I managed to keep myself in check for that one but I'll admit it does get frustrating when you are trying to make a point and subject keeps shifting, others are taking different roads, and of course, no direct or immediate answers. I apologize if my comments or tone offended anyone. Not my intent.

You have the right to keep and bear arms, it doesnt say anything about having a right to choose a AUG over a Colt.
You heard it here first, folks, as long as you have a right to carry what the government says you may carry, your right to keep and bear arms has not been infringed.

SmershAgent, your issues are with the state of Illinois. The Second Amendment has nothing to do with your state's laws.
See, the issue here has been changed from whether or not your right to keep and bear arms has been infringed to whether or not the Second Amendment has been violated. Cute.

Law is a complex field inhabited by scholars who spend their whole lives studying it.
It is NOW, but it wasn't THEN. Then, it was as simple as "shall not be infringed."

Is there a way of seeing who got banned? Might be a good object lesson if it were possible to see what got someone banned.
Just wait for some blowhard to post more idiocy, and if he doesn't, then that was him. :D

The Constitution details what the government is permitted to do. Pray tell: where in the Constitution is the government granted the power to punish someone for choosing an AUG?

To the contrary, the Constitution places no restriction on what constitutes "arms", and phrases the concept of "shall not be infringed" in the broadest term possible.

The 2nd Amendment was written by people who had just fought a war with their own muskets, cannons and battleships - by what reasoning do you conclude that what they wrote was intended to allow the government to punish people for owning lesser arms, or those made by particular manufacturers?

BTW, I can answer centac's request and go one better.

NRS 202.350 Manufacture, importation, possession or use of dangerous weapon or silencer; carrying concealed weapon without permit; penalties; issuance of permit to carry concealed weapon; exceptions.

1. Except as otherwise provided in this section and NRS 202.355 and 202.3653 to 202.369, inclusive, a person within this State shall not:

(a) Manufacture or cause to be manufactured, or import into the State, or keep, offer or expose for sale, or give, lend or possess any knife which is made an integral part of a belt buckle or any instrument or weapon of the kind commonly known as a switchblade knife, blackjack, slungshot, billy, sand-club, sandbag or metal knuckles;

There you go, a specific prohibition against possession of a certain arm.

You may also ask people in North Las Vegas how they feel about this one.
North Las Vegas
9.32.080 Deadly weapon prohibited in vehicle--Exceptions.
It is unlawful for any person to have in his possession in any automobile, truck, motorcycle, or any other type of vehicle any dangerous or deadly weapon, but this restriction shall not be deemed to prohibit the carrying of ordinary tools or equipment carried in good faith for uses of honest work, trade or business, or for the purpose of legitimate sport or recreation.

Thats right bud, people in NLV may not carry a weapon in their vehicle (how are you supposed to drive around with your state issued CCW?)

Now that I have met your request, will you please continue with your argument.

BTW, I am not a felon.

Though I can respect their authoritarian opinions, it’s folks like centac and the Rabbi who make me glad the Founders were wise enough to adopt the Second Amendment.

~G. Fink, non-felon prohibited from owning any number of arms

helllooooooo centac, where are you?

You've been called buddy, kindly make your point...or concede it.

Unfortunately, centac seems to have gone. The Rabbi too. Most unfortunate. Really.

Check the Members List. :D

So uhm... is it safe to have coffee cans again?

The smell of coffee confuses drug-sniffing dogs, so police have claimed that possessing coffee is evidence that someone is a drug mule.

What do the references to coffee cans mean?

According to a certain police officer, who unfortunately appears to no longer be a member, coffee cans are a justification for searching a citizen's vehicle.

For some odd reason, a lot of citizens on this board thought this was a flat out insane excuse for rather unnice behavior on the part of a police officer. They took to mocking this pathetic excuse, rightly so.
