As you can guess from the topic title I'm pretty happy my new pump has arrived. My first impression is that this rifle has a lot of potental. First off this thing has some heft to it, It feels even more substantal than my 7600 in 35 whelen despite the short barrel. The barrel is also rather stout you have the same taper as other pump barrels but with only a .224 diameter hole through it you end up with a pseudo bull barrel. STD 7400/7600 scope bases do in fact fit this model.

Too bad the weather is turnin really crappy otherwize I would have a range report shortly.

Stay tuned for a Williams WGRS sight. ;D

Wow, congrats nice rifle. Is that the only way to mount a sight? So the reciever/action is like their 870 shotgun? Seems pretty slick. I take it that the top of the reciever is not drilled and tapped w/ cover screws? What bbl twist does it have? I really like the iron sight setup on that model; seems very sturdy.

The reciever is in fact drilled and tapped to accept STD 7600/7400 scope bases. I went with the 870 mount so I can have an aftermarket apeture sight as well as a quick detach scope for developing loads and blastin yotes. In fact I just ordered one of these.

Looks sweet! A pump 223 feeding from AR15 mags seems like a great idea to me. (I have a supply of AR mags and ammo but nothing to fire it in if the time comes.) But.... 7 1/2 lbs? And about as much money as a midrange AR? Probably mediocre accuracy? I wish they had at least gone with an aluminum receiver. 5 1/4 lbs and $300 or so would be sweet indeed.

i would like to have that rifle......but i cant justify the price. are they keeping the price artifically high in order to discourage civilans from buying it??

just wondering why its so high compared to a 7600.

I don't know why you fellas think these rifles are overpriced? A NIB 7600 will run in the $500 to $550 range. I paid $650 for my Police taxes and all. I could have bought it for $600 shipped online but I opted to support the local guy.

BTW I'd like to know where those new $600 AR's are at. Or at least a NIB AR that you would actually be proud of and trust.

Also note that most 7600 shoot VERY good largly due to the fully free floated barrel. From the reciever to the muzzle nothing touches the barrel.

Nice-looking rifle there.

Do pump action rifles lend themselves to better accuracy than gas-operated rifles? If those things are more accurate than out-of-the-box ARs, then that's a major selling point.

I don't know about AR's but after owning a few 7600's I would say that on average they are every bit as accurate as your typical hunting weight remchester bolt gun.

FWIW, the anti-gun gang has already begun a campaign to include pump rifles and shotguns that take detachable magazines or have internal magazines holding over two rounds in an "assault weapon" ban. They did it in Australia and we are next in line. They won't try on a national level yet, but check your state legislature for coming attractions.

So, congrats to Remington for being non-PC enough to produce that gun. I bet they sell a whole lot of them.

Interested in the apeture sight Krochus

Krochus,

I am about to order a 7600 carbine in 30-06.

Will that apeture sight you ordered fit it? Where can I get it? What is the 870 mount?

Thanks,

Mike G.

come on, you know you want to try a Beta C-mag on that thing, doncha, doncha.. come on, you know you do :neener:

You know that would lead to quite an "out of context" if some one caught the afterwards conversation half way through...
