Even though it's been discontinued, I still think the P97 is a superb gun. Reliable, accurate, lightweight, bull strong, and fits my hand like a dream.

Any other fans of Ruger's forgotten .45 auto here?

You can definately count me into the club! I was looking for a second P345 when a friend told me that a really nice P97 had come into the shop that he works at.

I bought the gun on sight and even though I have only had it couple of weeks I am very impressed with it. It fits my hand better than my P345 and it is an awesome shooter. I have only gotten 100 rounds through it so far but it seems to run perfectly. Recoil is a tad sharper than the P345, but it's not bad.

Pics anyone? I'll start! :)

I've had a P97DC since early 2000. It was the first DA/SA I bought and it's still the only "plastic pistol" in my collection.

I'm rather fond of it. It's been very accurate and 100% reliable with any ammo I've fed it.

The Ruger P97DC is the pistol which showed me the advantages of DA/SA over SA and I quickly found myself carrying it on me out in the woods more than any other .45 I own.

One of my mother's friends has a husband with a CCL and he was looking to switch from his Taurus .38 revolver to an auto earlier this year. I let him shoot every auto pistol I have and he chose the P97 over all the others, and was lucky enough to score one on Gunbroker a month later. It's been his constant companion ever since.

My preference is the KP345PR (10/2005) over the KP90 (06/1995) or KP97DC (10/1999).
Accuracy with all three is excellent but the KP345PR fits my hand exceptionally well allowing slightly better accuracy when compared to the other two.

I might even pick up another if I find another good internet deal. Paid $240 for my like new stainless 2 years ago.

Yes, I have one and will not sell it! It lives next to my bed or in a holster on my belt.

I think the stainless P97 is the best looking Ruger centerfire auto ever. Some will say that that's like saying you're dating the best looking member of the Dixie Chicks, but personally I rather like the Ruger auto aesthetics. They're not beautiful, but they have a utilitarian charm all their own.

Had one. Sold it. Wish I had it back.

I keep mine in the nightstand. Never a malfunction of any kind. I keep it loaded with 230gr. Golden Sabers or Gold Dot HPs.

I bought mine (97DC) a couple years ago on a whim when I saw them in Gander Mountain on close out for ~$275 as I remember. I shot it the next day and was impressed.
It has a place in my safe until I`m gone.

I'm a big fan of and own several Ruger semi-autos and my KP97DC is my favorite, hands down. It resides in the night stand loaded with 230gr Golden Sabers. It is completely reliable and accurate, is easy to CC and fits my hand perfect. It's too bad Ruger replaced it with the 'politically correct' P345 because IMHO the P97 was superior in every way.

My P97 is what I keep loaded at the house. I have other handguns I like better but the ruger is easy for my wife to shoot and it always goes bang. Accurate and reliable is all I need in my house gun. Mark

Ruger considered the P97 to be "politically incorrect" because it doesn't have a key lock, loaded chamber indicator, magazine disconnect and is available as a de-cock only (no safety). All that extra "PC" crap allows for more failure points and doesn't make the pistol any better or safer. Those PC features just allowed it to be sold in the Peoples Republic of California.

Have 2, one makes it to the range once in a while and the other resides in my safe just because. They were the best bang for the buck at that time IMO.
