That Izhmash Biathlon in the American Rifleman looks like it should ring the death knell for American .22 rifles.

At 6lb, 8 oz. straight pull, Luger action, 2lb 4 oz trigger $339 retail, I can't see any reason other than sentimentality to buy ANY other .22

Using only the WORST ammo possible for a test, they got a best 50 yarder of .314 inch. From a BENCH REST and not machine rest.

Wonder WHY they didn't try any MATCH or STD vel ammo.

They didn't beat us with bombs but it sure looks like they will with products.

And the staff calls it OK for INFORMAL target shooting.

Uh huh.

I bet they sell for even more than that price. I have an IZH-46M match air pistol and it is the most accurate gun I have ever fired period. It is only an air pistol but it will put every pellet into the same .177 cal (or slightly larger) hole from a rest. One, tiny hole is the norm NOT the exception. I am not even that good with open sights and I can do it. The trigger is outstanding!

If what they can do with air pistols is any indication, I would like to pick up one of those .22s. My CZ-452 is nice but a real target rifle would be fun from the bench and standing.

The Russkies certainly can produce soem interesting things, I've actually been thinking about one of them mail order brides, I might just have to get me some of their guns as well.

Do they make an automatic 22 of the quality of these bolt actions, I'm really an auto guy?

I'll love my Izhmash CM-2...

As soon as I get a functioning BOLT ASSEMBLY!

I played with one at SHOT; if it delivers a tenth of the bang-per-buck of Izhmash's knockoffs of the Walther air pistols or the Benelli MP-95, it'll be a must-buy proposition.

"it's only just begun"

my boss, who is the chief editor of leading russian GUN magazine, as well as a leader of first non-US "Guns&Ammo" team, now is in Tula, discussing the promo campaign for TSKIB SOO sporting arms, including rifles and shotguns.

wanna some Holland & Holland class hunting arm at the price of the ordinary Beretta or Browning? the TSKIB SOO will provide

i just wonder if we ever will export for your US civvies our new "glockie" GSh-18 pistol, but this is for another forum...:what:

From Russia with love.

The IZH-46 is NOT a copy of the Walther. Walther sells a IZH-46 with a different finish and some other minor touch ups for about three times the price but it is still a IZH-46.

The walther KSP2000 is a copy of the IZH-35, not the 46. the Izh-46 is a an airpistol. They are both excellent pistols.

We were talking about air pistols, read the posts.

Welcome to THR Max!
Many of us would love to increase the trade balance across the globe

i am very impressed with my Molot Vepr

i may have to buy an Izhmash Biathlon and build my own SV99

any chance someone might import the SV99 break down stock?

;)

gun-fucious:

i think it's more question to US importers than to us Russkies =)

however, maybe some US-based Co could made something similar based on Biathlon/SV99 action (which are the same, IIRC)

I also wonder if someone will import the large Tiger semi-autos, which are the "civilianized" Dragunov SVD, with no bayo mount. There are several versions with different barrel lenths and furnitures, including "old style SVD" with wood stuff and "new style SVD" with black plastic stuff. These also available in mighty 9x63mm, for hunters as a Tiger-9 and for military / LE as a SVD-K.

local prices vary roughly from $500 (basik 7.62mm Tiger) to $1K (Tiger-9)

I hear their mail-order brides come with a 90 day, no-questions asked warranty. I like their scopes too!

I just checked out a Biathalon Basic at a gunshow today and I have to say I was impressed. The straight pull bolt was short and smooth with very light effort. The Garand type safety was a suprise. The stock had a nice shape to it although the grain and finish were nothing to write home about. It looked to be a very well made rifle. Asking price was $250 for the .22lr version. I`d like to know how much more they get for the .22mag.? Marcus

Max, since you seem to know about the Russian shooting scene, I have a question. Is the SVT-40 available over there? You would think if the Tiger was, it would be too, as they are both semi-autos in 7.62x54r.

SVT-40...

well, the Tigers are from new manufacture, and SVT-40 went out of production some 60 years ago. sometimes you can find a "demilitarized" second-hand surpulus SVT-40, but rarely. These are wery prized among collectors here, and i'm not aware about the prices.

Wierd. They are pretty common here, ranging from $350-550 for a standard type, although some rare ones go for more.

I thought they would be even more common in Russia.
