I just got off the phone with my daughter. She had stopped by our local dealer (Gun Dealer) today and was inquiring about a Judge. The owner told her that Taurus had stopped production and he couldn’t get them anymore. I’ve heard that Taurus had stopped production of some of their other revolvers but this is the first I’ve heard about the Judge not being produced. Do any of you know if there is any truth to this? It’s hard for me to believe since this was supposed to be one of their best sellers.

I seriously doubt it. Gun store owners are often the worst place to get gun related information...

They did not discontinue this, its just hard for dealers to get. Call around to another dealer, or even call Taurus themselves to find out.

Female walks into gunshop; (translation; Easy mark.)

'Nah, you don't want that, they discontinued that POS.' (Translation; I don't have that in stock.)

'What you really need is this pistol grip 10 guage pump gun, just the thing for a pretty gal like you to protect herself with.' (Translation; I gotta dump this POS, It's been here six months!)

:D

This reaches new heights in gun dealership crap. This is Taurus' best seller and they going to discontinue it:confused:

THey would not discontinue the "Judge". I've seen them recently at stores and gun shows and they are selling VERY well!! He was just trying to sell her in another direction. -- BTW, I bought the "Judge" 6 or 7 months ago and love it. It is very accurate with L45 and my new "truck protector".

I just bought one (3" S/S) 12-15-07 after being on a waiting list for several weeks. They still make them you just need to be patient.

My impression is that Taurus is selling every one of these it can produce. Sound like a gun that is discontinued?

All above-mentioned thoughts are exactly what I thought. It’s a load of BS. My daughter wanted a revolver like daddy has, since I have a Judge. I told her she needed a different revolver like I have, a 642. I think it would be cumbersome for her to be packing a judge around in her purse where she could easily conceal the 642 on herself someway. The weight itself would make a huge difference.
BTW, I checked the Taurus web sight and the Judge is still listed. And of course they are still promising to come out with the 3” Mag version but I haven’t seen it yet.

Seems highly unlikely.

They just spent mega-bucks for a full-page, full-color add for them in the Jan. 2008 American Rifleman magazine.

The Jury?

Has anyone really considered the gun to be worth it? I understand that the 410 shell was on alot of peoples list of things to get for self defense, but if you check the Box-O-Truth its a rather pathetic excuse for a self defense round. Is the Judge more of a novelty then?

Considering its main use is close quarters or even a short range trail gun. Its very worth it. Id rather shoot that for home defense then a 12ga shotgun. 5 rounds of 00 buck shot out as quick as you can pull the trigger and really not have much kick is well worth it. Then being able to swap out for .45acp in the same gun is a great bonus.

Novelty maybe, but to each his own.

Alot of popular guns have been getting dropped by Taurus. Seems they may be getting ready to put resources into the PT1911 and OSS lines now.

Horrible trail gun. .410 out of a short barrel is just about useless, and it won't take "Ruger only" .45 Colt.

Also, selecting short barrel .410 over a 12 gauge for HD is madness.

campbell is correct. Check the Box 'o Truth:

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm

45 Colt makes an excellent defensive round in a handgun, though ammo is pricey. Not an issue if you reload. So the judge is useful for SD in that regard. On the other hand, #6 birdshot only punched through one side of a 2-liter soda bottle filled with water (equating to roughly 2" of penetration into flesh). The 00 .410 buckshot didn't do much better, penetrated one jug and entering a 2nd, equating to roughly 4 to 5" of penetration, still not enough. For reference, the FBI's minimum penetration requirement is 12" (which takes into account things like heavy clothing, the bullet passing through a raised arm or weapon, and the fact that we Americans tend to be a bit on the BIG side.)

So for SD, I'd stick to 45 Colt only myself, leaving the shot shells for snakes and other small pests.

I too have to call BS on the discontinuation of The Judge. Go to Tauri's website, it doesn't say anything about them being discontinued: http://www.taurususa.com/products/gunselector-results.cfm?series=41.

Taurus is discontinuing a number of revolvers, including their Gaucho line. Maybe the gunshop owner was confused  ?
