My Uberti Walkers(made in 2009) only have one hammer rest/safety pin on the cylinder.
My 1860 has six.

Most of you are going to hate this probably. I cut my Walker down to 5 1/2 inches. I like how it came out. I haven't had the front sight reinstalled yet.

Hey Scrat,

Thanks for remembering. I have a new front sight mounted but have not yet sighted it in for any distance.

Also, MCB, since you answered a question regarding a Whitneyville, were they what we today consider a 1st model or did they differ. If they were different from a 1st, did anybody ever make a repro?

The Whitneyville was a short run (about 100+/-) before the 1st model. They used up the last of the Walker frames, these frames were cut down to except the shorter cylinder.

The Whitneyville is available as a replica from Uberti and Colt 3rd gen. I think ASM offered a Whitneyville but it was in name only, it had a Dragoon frame, just the name "Whitneyville' stamped on the barrel lug.

The 1st model Dragoon was the first to use the new frame style. The big change on the 2nd model was the cylinder notches went from oval to rectangle, and the 3rd model has the round trigger guard and most if not all 3rd models have the 51 Navy style loading lever latch.

The Walker, Whitneyville and possibly the first Dragoons had a single safety pin on the back of the cylinder. By the middle of Dragoon production there was six pins on the cylinder.

Well C%$P!!, now you've done it!! I told my wife that there were only 4 variations in the Walker/Dragoon family. I'll probably have to be sneaky about adding a Whitneyville.

Although I've been fortunate with ASMs to this point, I did find an ASM Whitneyville on GB. After having a look I think I'd avoid an ASM for this particular version, too bad.

Just got it 10 min ago. Really excited. This is the first Uberti C&B I have
ever seen. I am impressed with the action, and fit. Very Very good. This
is new un-fired. Barrel is around the 1 in 20 twist. Lands make about 1/2
turn in the 9 inches. Cylinder measures .451. Ought to shoot. Picture
was a hurried shot and don't do it justice.

Just ordered a R&D cylinder for my baby. Can't wait to shoot the Goex
factory "Black Dawg" Black Powder loads in it. Ought to be, what do you
say, a BLAST. Wonder what it would chronograph? Mebby 1,000 fps. It's
a 235 gr. with 37 grs of their "Cowboy" grade. I think it goes 875 in a 5 inch
barrel. I got a bunch from Cabela's before price went up several years ago.

Oh, here's something you all can discuss for a while. Which is more powerful
the round ball and say 55 grs GoexFFF or the Goex factory BP load?. Me?
I don't know . Thats what I want you all to discuss.

A round ball over 55 grains of 3F is gonna give you close to 1200fps. Lot's of kinetic energy. A 250 grain bullet over 30 to 35 grains of 3F is gonna give you close to 1000fps. Not as much KE but a lot more momentum. Let's just say I don't wanna play "catch the bullet" with either.:)

Both have the "oomph" for making targets cringe in fear. Both could take deer at close range. Both would be good "stopping" loads. Both would get everyone's attention at a Cowboy Action match, but the round ball load would be illegal as it's over 1000fps.

Just for hoots and giggles I fired the Walker at 100yds. at a standard B-27 Silhouette target.
Offhand, I was hitting in the black 4 or 5 out of six! :what:
Looked more like a bad pattern than a group but it made him keep his head down anyways. LOL
The old Walker is STILL a fighting pistol! :D

Well, I took the new addition out for excercise yesterday and managed to get five or six cylinders through it. Unfortunately I hit a mechanical glitch on the first cylinder. The hand spring decided to leave it's proper place. I pulled it down and tapped the spring back into the hand but of course I don't have to explain how well that worked out do I?

After coffee this morning (so my hands will be steadier), I'm going to try to put it back where it belongs again, this time I'm going to make an attempt to get just enough JB weld into the slot to hold it. What could go wrong right?? Failing that I'll order a new hand and spring from VTI.

Range Report:

She shoots straight and of course high. 50 gr 3f is impressive. Nice group at 25 yards.

Note to self: Because a Walker is heavy and using two hands is useful when attempting to figure out where she's shootin'....BE VERY CAREFUL about exactly where the fingers of your left hand are in relation to the cylinder/barrel breach. I'm admitting to stupidity so that possibly another "New" Walker shooter might learn from my painful mistake. I am currently attempting to work about 4 pieces of what is either BP or burned corn meal out of the knuckle of my middle finger on my left hand.

When it happened I originally thought that I had just experienced a chain fire, it wasn't. But I WILL pay more attention to where my fat fingers are from now on!!

Foto, I've also experienced the exact opposite of that. You know, where you shoot single actions all day long, then grab a semi-auto and hold your left thumb up high so you can pull the hammer back for the next shot!:D
