none, the Walker is frequently referred to as the "Whitneyville Walker" due to it's being made by Eli Whitney at his factory. Sam Colt had been through bankruptcy and had no facilities to build anything. It is said that the Whitney Dragoon was also made at Eli Whitney factory.

If you mean Whitneyville Dragoon, 7.5" barrel versus 9"; 50-grain capacity chamber versus 60-grain. The Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoon (AKA "Transition Walker) was Sam Colt's first production model in his Hartford plant, using leftover parts from the original Walker contract made in Whitneyville. One writer describes it as "a better Walker". If mine ever gets off backorder from Cabela's, I'll let you know my opinion.

Berkley - thanks for the explanation. I consulted Flayderman's Guide to Antique American Firearms and he pretty much espouses what you said. The biggest difference between the Walker and the Whitneyville is the length of the barrel. For instance, the Whitneyville has a 7.5" long barrel while the Walker’s barrel is 9.0" long. So, my question probably should have been: What is the difference between the Whitneyville and the Dragoon, as they both have the shorter barrel length?
Where I got to questioning things is from the Museum’s description of the Walker that they have in their possession as being a Whitneyville. In my mind they were trying to say it is a transitional Walker. However, by all appearances, it is a first Walker, not a transitional.

James Serven, in his classic work Colt Firearms 1836-1960 uses the names "Whitneyville-Walker Dragoon Pistols" and "Whitneyville-Hartford Dragoon Pistols". That has probably created some of the confusion over the years.

well my Walker should be in my mailbox by 12:30 PM today!!! I'm not excited at all...nope, not even a little bit... NOT! lol pics will be forthcoming unless the mail lady left before 7:30 this morning, in which case it will be here tomorrow.
I am most curious if the cylinder is numbered to the gun like most others, and if the extra cylinder is so numbered as it was sold as a set. We shall see...

it's here! cylinders have rust in them, small rust spots on the loading lever. No numbers on the cylinders. this is unfired but has been in the box many many moons. date code is BH making it a 1996 model. storage crud on it and it has had no love as I am the first private owner, it has just been passed around by dealers until now. as is pics then I will post pics after she gets a bath and gets her ears scrubbed...

It has some sort of varnish on all the case colored parts, It wont when I am done! cleaning her up now, Can somebody give me a refresher on the vinegar strip for the bluing? Since I have 2 cylinders at least one will be in the white. The one on the gun has no bluing in the oval bolt cutouts so it will be the one being stripped, the extra cyl. has excellent bluing. Lots of crud here and there, many q-tips are giving up their lives for this bath...

OK, problem #1 the screw above the wedge seems to be not in the center of the wedge, it is closer to the cylinder and does not want to go back in at all with the wedge installed. I was under the impression that the screw was supposed to be in the center of the wedge with the head of the screw dipping into the groove in the wedge touching the flat spring of the wedge. any thoughts ??

Hey Indy - that's a fine looking Walker you got there. Now after you get rid of that bluing on the cylinder it will look extra fine. Do you have any Rust Cure? If so, spray a liberal amount on the cylinder and then wipe with a rag. The bluing will come right off; it's that simple.

You are correct about the wedge screw. It is supposed to be in the center of the wedge. One possible solution is to install the screw first and then try to sneak the wedge in under it. Another would be to reduce the size of the head of the screw so it no longer contacts the wedge. After all, it's only there to keep you from pulling the wedge completely out.

We have LOTS of longhorns in Missouri! I got the screw in, it rubs on the side of the groove in the wedge. It removed some of the steel, at the very least the bluing is gone from the screw head edge. I am disappointed that Uberti would allow a Walker with the screw location a good 16th of an inch off, it will work though and I WILL shoot it! With the wedge out and the screw out the drill hole location is way obviously off. They dutifully put the "1847 US" directly above the screw hole though, even though it is OFF. LOL
I have vinegar, I was gonna try that.

I only did the original cylinder and it is numbered to the gun on the nipple end with a scratch awl. The spare is not

Yeah, I see him. Notwithstanding the screw mis-alignment, you have a beautiful gun there Indy. What's more, ghouls in the case-hardening are an enhancement and generally add 15% to the sale price!

Thanks Norton, I know I am obsessed but I want to get a presentation box and a flask, mold, nipple wrench. I need some leather for her now, rifle season is in now but muzzle season is coming and I will carry the Walker for sure during that season. Assuming I determine what to feed her by then! I already had all I need to load her up.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone invented a magic formula to duplicate a 160 year patina.
I use rustoleum to strip blue from parts. Grips are stripped and Tung oiled.
