Numbers matching non refurbed Walkers did not have their cylinders blued from what I can see. Just looking thru a number of them that have been for sale over the years. I sw a coupe of pieces that were a total mismatch of numbers and it was quite apparent that at one time the cylinder was blued while five of them I found images of that had matching numbers mostly had what appeared to be originally in the white cylinders although over the years a natural patina has grayed the metal. But not a s dark as the blued parts ;)
 
We're delighted to have you come and listen, but why not join in? Admittedly most of the group is completely insane, but we have so much fun it ought to be illegal. Having a replica Walker revolver is a plus, but it isn’t mandatory. Being seriously interested is enough. But be warned! This thread is highly addictive… :D

I don't have a Walker, but I read this thread when something new pops up.

A long time ago, I went through the Illinois State Police Academy as a small town cop in training. There were so many Smith & Wesson Model 39's around that place at that time that I thought I would be getting one.

I resisted the temptation then (wait for it, the moral of the story is coming)
but when I went to law school in Oklahoma in the early 80's, I got a job in a small town outside Oklahoma City. Down there at the time, everybody wore either .45 Long Colt Smiths, .44 Mag Smiths or .41 Mag Smiths. If you had something less you were considered a wimp.

I wore a Model 27 Smith and I was considered a wimp. I finally broke down and got a Model 25 Smith in .45 Long Colt, after I was already a lawyer and back in Illinois.

And here is the moral.

I've been hanging around this thread so long that the itch is starting!!!! :what:

Its' getting bad! If only I had not gotten the house resided last year, I could justify the expediture. Maybe...

Bigbadgun, You know that ain't so! You know I worry about you to. Hell, I worry 'bout a lot of you folks on here....I'vd been trying to let you get some rest, Big gun. You're gonna need it. Toward the last of May or in June I have some work for you my man. One belt holster and one saddle scabbard for a Cattleman's carbine. They will need to be made out of good tough leather. Real leather, like saddle skirting. No 'paper leather'. They will not need to be 'fancy'. They will not be for hanging on a wall in the hope's that people will admire them. They will be working hard and on horseback right alongside me in the blowing sand, the sweat, the rains and just whatever else come's up. I know you do excellent work and I trust you and I will pay promptly for the work as you well know from the last time we worked together.
How's everything in Florida? Well, I hope. Weather's breaking up here. Glad of it to. I love Wyoming but actually I could live without as much snow and cold wind as we get.
Well, I'll give you a call in a few weeks, Big gun. Maybe you will see fit to do the work. I know you're good at it....14th Alabama CSA..

Buy a Walker and become a member of the proudest, the most exclusive, and the most private club on the face of this earth. (not to mention all the good clean honest fun you will have when you carry it to the range)
Hope we don't drive you crazy. We'vd had a few that have visited this thread and then left in a sort of mentally disturbed state but by and large we're good people!

Dr. Law, Welcome sir. You need to buy a Walker. You'vd been around a little just like I have. Com'on now!! You know you want one! I'm surprised that the club's founder and owner (Scrat)....Hey, ain't that a helluva name?!!....hasn't already made serious efforts to recruit you.
Anyway, I have read you on here for a long time and you are very welcome on here sir....
 
Morning Gentleman............ naw I didn't shoot myself in the foot. Been busy putting new guttering on the house as well as running a raffle trying to help raise money for a friend of mine with a failing liver ;) Hope your doing good as well. Worling on trying to make a good looking wood stand for my Walker and dragoon so they can fit into my safe proper and still haven't come up with a idea I like. AS far as Walkers................ you might as well succomb to the sickness.Over the years I have messed with big bore S&W's, trap guns, andsniper rifles from around the globe and the Walker intrigues me more than any have in a long time. To hold the title of the worlds most powerful handgun for say 85 years is no easy feat and its still as hot running as some of the mickey mouse pistols and revolvers today. PLus, even though they are replicas they are a replica f a very important and historic firearm in my opinion . Craig
 
Noble Sniper..Craig..Oh, I love my Walker. Own a pair of them. One is put away as an emergency backup. It's never been loaded or fired. (although I know I'vd bought enough spare parts here and there over the years to build at least 4 complete Walkers if I ever needed to. Same with my '49's and my '58's, plus even more extra cylinders just for the carbines) A Walker was the first blackpowder firearm I ever owned. I'm talking about years and years, Noble Sniper. I told Cabela's I was heading into rough country and they better not send me a piece of trash! (actually I used another word instead of trash!) The second blackpowder piece I ever bought was the Colt Pocket. I ain't never looked back. (both the Walkers and the .31's are Uberti ) (and the carbines)
I'vd shot the same Walker for all these years, Noble Sniper. I will tell you the flat truth without getting into details about it. Up in bush Alaska, down through the Yukon, Montana and Wyoming; that Walker has protected me, saved my life more than once, fed me, gave me comfort and has even started a few fires for me when my hands were too cold to start them any other way. Like, get a fire started or you die, just that simple.
I just like to carry on with Old Fuff about them. If I had a serious question about any blackpowder piece I would go straight to Old Fuff with it. If I couldn't get to him I'd go to Mr. MyKeal. It would be a toss up as to which one is the smartest. (from what I can tell by reading posts)
I have never had a problem with my Walker, Noble Sniper. Never have and I have carried it for years.
It took me about 2 years to learn how to shoot it. I don't mean just how to load it and point down range at a piece of paper on some range. I mean how to shoot it, how to use it, what it will do, what it won't do, on and on and on.
Of course I like my '49's and I love my '58's and my Cattleman's carbines also...I don't care what people do. I'vd seen them brown their Walkers, hell, I'vd seen people do just about everything to a Walker that can be done. If I didn't see it I heard about it.
Noble Sniper, While the rest of the people were going to some range on Saturday for an 'outing' I was back in the wilds (and I mean wild) where my Walker was my friend. I know I will never be able to make you understand because you'vd never lived it but my Walker is my friend. It has taken care of me and pulled me out of a few bad jams in my life. Now, I'm getting a little older than I used to be. I mostly just sit here at my little place and drink coffee and smoke and do nothing. I work real hard in the summer time on up into the fall. Don't have to. I'm retired and have a pretty good retirement. But I enjoy the work and I have a couple of ranchers (they're my friends) that depend on me, plus I'vd got a few head that I run in with theirs. I don't ramble around much anymore, Noble Sniper. But I sure used to head for the wildest, most untamed places that I could get to. Mostly fur trapping and the like. I didn't just go there, I lived there. My Walker was there with me....14th Alabama CSA..

Any evaluations, admonishions, praise, or anything else, for the old "CVA" Walkers of the 1970s, '80s?


I located one, it's 'reasonable', and am wondering about m-a-y-b-e getting it...


Would an 'Uberti' of newer or older make be a better Arm to wait for?

Gentleman,forgive me if I sound jealous but thats the kind of life I dream about. I would like nothing more to run cattle etc...... I much prefer the wild places but am having a hard time convinceing my wife and two teenage daughters of it. AS far as a firearms being a persons best friend I can understand fully........... I have a Colt single action revolver that is very near and dear to me. Best job ( and actually one of the lowest paying) I ever had was tending my friends cattle. Also did it for a brief time for another friend of his. Keep telling myself one fo these days ;) As far as the '49 Colt.......I am daily trying to talk myself out of one :)

Personally, I would hold off for a Uberti Walker........... cannot say I have owned the others but have looked at several and prefer the Uberti personally :D
 
sltM 1.. Well, in my Uberti Walker (talking for myself personally now) I stick with 48 grains of Triple Seven (3fffg) behind a swaged round lead .457 ball and kick everything off with a Remington #11 percussion cap. I (just me personally here now) have also found that 42 grains is a good accurate load also....
 
Oyebotem. Don't know what to tell you. I'vd got Uberti and Uberti has sure been good to me.
I do own a couple of CVA .45 caliber inlines (I'vd only shot one of them) and I'vd got nothing but praise for CVA. I'vd never had any type of revolver made by them so I just can't say....
 
G O T C you sound like a real modern day Jedidiah Smith or mountain man. your lucky= thats a life long dream for a lot of men
 
GOTC, thanks, 45g of fffg Goex seems to be my Walkers favorite. I 've worked with horses and occasionally cows, all my life, on and off, but only as a "day" man. I've worked in the rain, snow, wind and hot sun (all in one day), but never got to truly live the life so to speak. Sounds like you had a great time my friend!! Closest "roughing it" memory I have is eatin' fresh mountain oysters hot off the top of the branding iron forge during roundup. No A-1 Sauce was the rough part LOL!.
 
Oyeboten I also have an Uberti Walker love that damn gun almost as much as GoC good shooter natural pointer accurate out to about 100 yards with my blind self 6 holes in a pie plate at 100 yards not bad for being legally blind in one eye. So if you got 2 good eyes you'll be in good shape. The only ASM that I own is a remmie in Stainless and still havent shot that thing. But fit and finish are real tight and so is the lock up. If you can get a Walker at a good price hell buy it. And save up for an Uberti that way you have learned everything with an older gun. Then when you get your Uberti you gonna be a pro.
