Nice pic scrat love seeing the pics posted here guess I'm gonna have to get some of mine. I was just sitting here reading the posts and drug out my walker haven't shot it in a couple of weeks and I couldn't cock it. loosened the wedge and still wouldn't cock so took the barrel off but could hardly get the cylinder off only lube I've ever used is crisco could this be caused by too much crisco or??? worked the cylinder a bit on the base pin and wiped off the base pin and it's still kind of sticky but not too bad. dies this happen with crisco after sitting up for a while? I guess this is the longest I've gone without shooting it.

I had a similar problem with mine about a month ago. Then i took it completely apart. it had two pieces of spent caps in the works. Now it works fine. As for lube. crisco or bore butter is what i use on the bullets. But for the works i use graphite and on the base pin i use a very lite coat of molly grease. Works really good.

Thanks scrat I'll have to give that a try I am sure that it is not a spent cap as it worked fine after the last cleaning and haven't shot it since. I'm not familiar with molly grease but I'll find some.

DixieTexian Thanks i'll try both the mollygrease and definately need to buy some boar butter I am sure not happy about the condition I found my Walker in last night.

Oddman looks like it worked just fine. great collection by the way. I am envious.

Oddman,

Welcome to the forum.

Nice collection indeed.

I am particularly fond of the 1860s you have photographed. Perhaps we need an 1860 thread.

Question reg. picts

How do you increase the size of photos ? any help is appreciated.

Ok let me see if I can do this again. But first I go on vacation for a week or so there was 30 members I get back and now there is 40 members I think I need to post a warning.
(WARNING) If all members of the Walker club fired at one time this would indeed melt the polar ice caps.
Ok now that is out of the way here is a special offer for the Walker Club
For the next 2 weeks so until May 8 2008 Walker holsters are on sale. Plain Holster $30 fully carved holster $45. Belts are extra but just say you are a member and I can discount those also. This sale is for Walker Holsters ONLY. Please check my website and give me a call.
Yours in the HolyBlack WALKERS FOREVER.

OK Guys, I need some more help. Seems like I ask more questions than anyone else on here. My wife had some suggestions as to why that is the case, but what does she know. Up to this point I have been using a funnel and pouring from the can into a pwder measure and then into the cylinder which is a slow and tedious way of loading my revolver. I have been looking for a powder flask that would also throw at least 55 grains of black powder but had not been able to find one until a few weeks ago I when I came across a Walker Adjustable flask that was advertised to throw from 30 to 60 grains of powder. Call me dumb but for the life of me I can not adjust it to throw more than about 35 grains has anyone else tried one of these and if so what in the world am I missing? Seems like if try to adjust beyond 35 or so it just leaves a gaping hole through which powder flows out. Also I was surprised and a bit disappointed that there were no markings for measurement on the measure part of the flask. That in itself is not a big deal but still would have been a nice to have

By the way I just took bigbadgun up on his offer for a holster and a belt, just to good a deal to pass up. I'll post a few pics when I get it.

you are in for an exercise in tedium borderd by disaster.

On the side of the spout you will find a tiny copper screw. This fits into one of several dimples on the spout. If you loosen the screw, you should be able to pull out on the spout and then tighten it town on one of the currently hiddend dimples. If you take the (very short) screw out all the way, it will fallinto the carpet and disappear forever. If it doesn't, then getting it back in the tiny little threaded hole requires much cursing

mec I did find that screw and have been able to adjust that part of the spout but if i adjust it enough to take 50 or so grains that adjustable part(nomenclature?) sticks out below the mouth of the spout and the pwder just runs out. I'll get it out later and play with it some more and maybe I can provide a better explanation of the problem i am having with it. mec i just realized you are the Author of "Percussion Pistols And Revolvers: History, Performance and Practical Use" That was the first book I bought on Black powder and I'd sure reccomend it to anyone. I knew you gave some great advise here but I did not realize you you were such an authority on these weapons I'm honored that you'd take the time to share with me some of your expertise, thanks.

off the top of my head, I believe that round base in the spout screw i and out with the object being to level it with the opening. I found my walker replica flasks to be somewhat spazmodic in the accuracy and consistency department and mainly use it for pictures.

for the walker and dragoon, I usually use these:
http://www.trackofthewolf.com/(S(nr...ies/partList.aspx?catID=1&subID=13&styleID=49
top of the page.

Pedersoli makes most of these flasks etc located here:
http://www.davide-pedersoli.com/accessoriDettaglio.aspx?CategoriaId=1420&lang=en
should be able to find some of these spouts that will go 50 or sixty grains or just get a circa 25 grain one and double pour.

some manuals will tell you never to load directly from a flask or horn as they turn into grenades if you pour in on top of an ember. I always make sure there are no burning particles in the chambers and go ahead and load from the flask as was common in the 19th century.

The risk might be greater if you use paper cartridges, but i've never seen any residual fire from routine shooting. If I do blow myself up of course, it's my own look out.

(you sound like an armed federal flight deck officer. I hope they change that holster/unholster situation like you guys have advised them all along.)

Thanks mec I'll check those out and play with this thing a bit more I invested 45 bucks in it, but I'm running out of patience with the thing. Nope not an armend FDO a card carrying fed jack booted thug type CBP Air and Marine ops guy

bigbadgun sounds like it should work
