Well finally solved the unfired condition of mine. was all over the target, the rear sight notch needs to be enlarged, it is totally filled by the front sight, so I moved the gun left and rt til I thought it was centered then let her rip. I started with 20gr of Goex and 20 cornmeal and topped with felt wad, then 40gr and felt wad, less felt recoil at 40gr than my ROA. After I open up the rear sight some, I'll try 50gr.. It's heavy, but addictive to shoot, the #11 Remington caps had to be pinched to stay on, I'll need to find some #10's. :D:D:D

wow, I'm impressed!

So glad I finally joined THR, been reading for a year or two, but never got around to registering 'til the other day. I am VERY HAPPY to have found the 'Walker Club'!!!

My Walker was the third gun I ever bought and/or owned. My first two were the 1851 Navies seen below (first two below the Walker). It didn't take me long, I bought the Walker just a month after I bought the Navies. I've enjoyed shooting since I was 12 years of age, but didn't start collecting until I was 22 years old. I knew I needed a safe home of my own (apartment so far) before I could feel comfortable owning anything that goes boom. Thanks to Clint Eastwood movies, I knew ahead of time that I would start with an 1851 Navy and continue with percussion cap n ball revolvers, and two or three years after the Walker I got my license and now have many modern and historical firearms. In the past year my income has diminished, and I had to part with an 1858 Remington that had a 12" barrel, and I sold my 1873 Cattleman Peacemaker-style percussion-gun as well. But I still have what is seen below, and will never ever sell them for any reason whatsoever! So can I join the club?? :)

P.S. I am only on page 4 still reading through this thread As quickly as I can, I will read every post until I catch up. It's a habit of mine when I find a great thread in a forum.

They couldn't have cared less! Though a friend of mine fired a .50BMG rifle at a decent amount of tannerite, at a different farm that caused chickens to drop some eggs

I've been missing out! but I brought a wake-you-up!

Dang yall! I've been reading this thread from page 1 every chance I get for days now, and have been completely enthralled. I'm on page 50 now, and I'm bummed that I'm late to the party. I was a Walker owner when this thread seemed to be at its most active, I just didn't use the internet-box so much back then. Gentleman Charcoal, your bits of history here and there in the thread are fascinating! And I've been getting lots of laughs from you and Fluff's back-and-forthery :D

Well Walker Club, I have something for you that should wake you guys up and drag you back to the clubhouse. Check out these photos I took! I wish I could say it was mine now, a friend's grandfather left it to him, and he is not a gun guy, and has experienced financial difficulties. His asking price was $800, and if I had even close to that I would have pounced on it and made it my own. Instead I was able to find a really great buyer for him, a born-and-raised resident of Houston Texas, who actually attended "Texas History Class" in 7th grade, the very year of the Texas Sesquicentennial Anniversary of Texas becoming a U.S. State. I knew I found the right buyer when he flooded my e-mail with Texas, Sam Houston, and Walker history :) I'm also happy to say I was able to get my friend more than his asking price of $800 for this beauty. Again it PAINED me not to be able to buy it myself, but at least I found a really great home for it, where it will be loved and cherished. I got $100, and a full tank of gas (from empty!) for helping my friend sell it :) New Owner says he will never sell it, only pass it on to a family member much later in life. Try not to drool on your keyboards, yes that is 24k Gold on the Walker!!!!!

I couldn't decide which photos I liked better, so I included them all. Wish I could have taken better photos with a tripod and better lighting, but I had to take them at the FedEx store, didn't really have time anywhere else.

That is a beautiful revolver. I remember when those came out. How long ago did your friend sell it? I might have bought that rascal...

Thinks for posting your pics. Like the pice you did on youtube. That's one of the prittest Walkers I've ever seen. Dang I don't think I couldn't bring myself to fire something like that. That's one reason I want buy anything like that. No way would I buy something I couldn't shoot. I'm getting to old for that buying and put it in glass stuff. I don't want something I can't shoot. But if A person had the cash and starting out young That's a cool deal. At $700.00 dollars that's a steal for that revolver. Reason it wouldn't do for a guy like me is I wouldn't have anyone to leave it to anyway. I still like it. I hope your friend is really understand what you have done for him.

DoubleDeuce1, it was sold last month after belonging to my friend for many years. His Grandfather bought it new, and the original paperwork was included.

Dellbert, it was sold for more than $700, I would be tempted to shoot it too if I had been able to buy it, but my trusty ol' Uberti might've helped me resist. One of the prettiest guns I've ever handled

:DI have been around firearms since I was a child, but never exposed to black powder shooting growing up and that for me is a shame. I do not own one as of today, however I very much plan on getting me the Uberti 1847 "Walker" ASAP! I very much look forward to being part of your great tradition, I only wish it happened long ago.

Woohoo! late to the party as usual, but I made it :) To quote from earlier in the thread:

149 Members and counting! We need to set a get-together somewhere and shoot them all at the same time! That would be sooooooooooo much fun imagine the sound of 149 (or more!) Walkers going off at the same time!!!

I'm still catching up reading every single post :) I'm on page 82 and I'll be all caught up very soon. So glad this club exists!

And thanks Scrat, I do enjoy taking photos, wish the Sam Houston pics came out better, but they certainly could've been worse

You have a lot of reading to do. Welcome aboard. can you imagine 149 Walkers going off at the same time. Especially if we all fired a full cylinder load. SMOKE everywhere

I do have much more reading to get through, but good thing for me I'm a fast but attentive reader :)

Just dug up some older photos from my Flickr account, took these on a cold boring February afternoon four or five years ago, see what boredom can do to people! :D

(if anyone's worried about my trigger discipline, I actually took these photos to help with drawings I was working on for a Western/Apocalypse-themed comic strip, and the guns were completely empty and triple safety-checked)

If we all pointed them to the east and fired it may slow the planet down. 8940 grains of powder going off at one time.. BIG BIG BOOM!

Ha! Dammitboy, you're right. I never noticed that before, it was my former room-mate's tapestry, the light in that room was painfully bright so that acted as a lampshade. I thought those were just wavy lines. I bet a Walker would take out a Unicorn just fine.

And Double Deuce, I don't have a tactical holster for the wheel-guns, but I was wearing a tactical shoulder holster with a 5906 in the photos. Soon as I get some holster money together I look forward to getting a Big Bad Gun holster for my Walker

Finally

All caught up, have read every post in this thread and I feel like my brain stretched a little bit soaking up all that great info! Steven Youngblood, if we have a Walker Club Shoot, we could give the planetary orbit alteration experiment a try!

I think if all the Walkers were pointed to the east and fired at the same time, then the earth's rotation would speed up some. We would end up with shorter days until the rotation slowed to normal. That could lead to an accelerated winter season, possibly cooling the earth and saving it from global warming. By doing so, we may bring on another ice age.

We might even add an extra day or more to the calendar because of the faster rotation. That could result in shorter vacations, and maybe more visits from the mother-in-law... This whole thing is making my head spin:scrutiny:

I got another chance to use my Walker (an old ASM repro, pictured earlier in this thread) today. This time I had a few problems with caps - there were quite a few occasions where caps did not go off the first time they were struck by the hammer. Is this common, or is it likely to be an error on my part? The caps are Remington no. 11, and I used a tool to fit them to the nipples.

Despite this I found that it was possible to score hits on a 12" target at 50m, using 50 grains of FFFg, which was pleasing.

Your cap problem is not uncommon. It's due to one of two possible causes: the caps are too small in diameter, or the nipple cones have become 'mushroomed' at the tip, preventing the caps from fully seating. With Remington No. 11's it's unlikely the former cause is the problem, plus you seem to have had no problem with them previously.

That suggests the nipple cones have mushroomed, that is, become enlarged at the tip. This can be caused by long term use or by dry firing. In any case they can be repaired with a fine file and a variable speed drill motor - just chuck them into the drill and rotate them slowly while holding a fine file or emery paper to the tip. Check frequently using a cap to be sure not to overdo it. Or, you could just purchase some new nipples. If they deformed due to long term use they probably need to be replaced because the flash hole has enlarged due to erosion.

May I join the Official THR Walker Club?

The Walker Colt - I've wanted one since I was a kid, and finally got it for my 45th B-Day this past Sept. Love to shoot it!

Hope the pic came through OK (this is my first post to this site). This spot in my home is the designated place where prospective "suitors" must ask me for permission to court my daughter.

BTW, in the pic, the Walker is sitting on a display case for a Remie '58.
