sometime within 9-12 months SIG will be producing civilian legal 550's here in the US of A. pricing somewhere below $2,000.

whats that noise? ohhhh its the sound of tens of thousands of people rushing to sell their dinky ol AR's. :what:

btw, source refused to be named. i even tried hanging them by toenails and pummelling them with an organic carrot. didnt work.

Wouldn’t it be prohibited under the Bush import ban?

This rumor has been popping up off and on for the last few years. It would be neat, but I would have to see it to believe it. At SHOT the Sig guys denied it up and down, then right after SHOT it started floating around again, and supposedly some sales reps said that it was going to happen, and then they retracted it.

I'd pay up to $1,200 for one. If I had the money of course. Anything beyond that really isn't worth it for another .223 rifle, IMO.

Nice looking Battle Rifle... Damn nice!

Not worth 2 grand though - at least not to me - and I like battle rifles.

It's not like I can't afford 2 grand I just don't see spending that much money on essentially what for me would be a toy - hmmmm.... maybe that's why I can afford 2 grand.

Of course if I had the financial where with all and was the kinda guy who could afford 4 grand on a toy I probably would get me one of those. It's all relative I guess since I will readily spend $1000 on a gun I want.

That said I truly hope that SIG does choose to manufacture that rifle here in the USA. Given SIG's history of quality that BR would be a welcome addition to anyone's collection that wanted one and didn't mind spending the cash to get it.

At around $2000 for the Sig, I'd sooner get a Rob Arm XCR for about $1,200, given its AR accessory compatibility. Or if I *was* inclined to drop a veritable buttload on a .223, it'd be an FN 2000 first. Still, the 550/551 is a nice gun, no doubt.

considering the going price for a 550 right now is between $6000 and $8000 (because they are in such short supply in this country) that 'less than $2,000' price is sweet.

suppose the figures given to me (both price and time frame) have been slightly exaggerated? what if it was say, 6-9 months out, and maybe, $1,500?

I'd think it would have to be priced about the same as the new FN. Those two would be tops in the 5.56 rifle land. However, I'll never call a 5.56 rifle a "battle rifle", unless we go to battle against an army of varmints.

i'm a cheapstake, so this rifle would have to be REALLY GOOD for me to pay ~$1500 for it. it should be accurate, light, have hicap mags (20-40 rnd.), and be able to shot in dirty conditions, like the Kalishnikov. since it seems to have desert camo on it, i think it should be able to operate in dirty conditions. and it's gotta look cool, and it's already passed that.
but--
are those PLASTIC mags?

Yeah, I think that those are plastic mags BUT you can link up to THREE together for 90 rounds!

Yeah, price tag needs to come down. Also, I don't think any version of the Sig 550/551 is produced in .308. I would rather pay that kind of pricetag for a G-36 in .308.

Under $2000? Like $1999?

I don't know what noise you are hearing but it is not the sound of me rushing to sell my dinky ol' ARs.

What you might have heard is me yawning. :D

Actually it is a very nice rifle and I would be lying if I said I did not want one. However, having said that, $2000 opens up a lot of options in the .308 playing field (which is where I want to be playing for that kind of money)

Now...say $1000? Oh yeah, I will be waiting in line for it.

But I ain't sell'in the ARs !! They stay. ;)

mayhap some simply hint at less for more, in the hopes that the consumer will be pleasantly surprised by the reality?

i do the same thing when i talk to the ladies. instead of bragging about myself i tell all my faults and highlight my shortcomings. they will either be wowed by my honesty or impressed with my modesty. :D

I ya really want one spiff you could defray your cost by having WA order it wholesale and go in halvies with him. Then you could share joint custody. :p

yeah and he'd be thrilled with me always asking to store it at my place. :D

while i'm at it i could also provide a safe place for the colt commando! and all those extra beta c mags! :neener:

I would drop $ 1,000.00 on one, maybe a little more but thats about it. If I wanted to spend $ 2,000.00 I would do it on a DSA SA58 Para Congo with a folding stock.

YOU PEOPLE it's a SIG552 for crying out loud  wanted by many, owned by few. It is exotic. Sure it prob doesnt cost $2000 to make, but hey thats what almost 17 years of "hands off" does to a rifle
