The Ugliest Shotgun in Maricopa County

I have the .410 version. It was my grandfather's, who died before I was born. It points very naturaly for me and has a decient trigger. When I was about 7 my grandmother told me "That's gonna' be your gun someday when you are older." When she passed away my dad held on to it till I was old enough (in my parent's eyes). It seems to put the shot right where I want it, so it works for me. Worked great against the copperhead in my backyard. I'm usually not one to kill shakes, even poisonous ones, but when they are right outside the door with dogs and cats and a pregnant wife running around everything changes. I think my grandfather would approve.

Great find on the gun. Enjoy it.

If it's the 12ga then it's identical to my 45+ year old Model 195 Mossy. The smaller gauges are Models 185, 180, etc. There should be an engraving on the top of the barrel indicating the model. It's an ideal goose gun and I've even used mine for turkey.

I think the 395 is a newer version of the 195, not real sure, I'm still doing research. $40 is one heckuva good deal in any case!

i figure you're right, axman. i've never tried to look up the age, but it doesn't feel very old.

from what i've found the same model usually goes for $80-$100 because they just aren't very desireable, and let's face it, many shotgunners are snobs.

i figure i'm going to keep this one for quite a while.

Well, I feel that my Model 195 is a heavy gun. Try tracking turkey while lugging it without a sling. The more you carry it, the heavier it gets. Otherwise it's a very reliable gun, as the 395 should be!

There was a funky thingamajig at the end of the barrel which Mossberg called a C-Lect Choke, a twist-o-matic adjustable dealy with three settings: Full, Mod, and Imp Cyl.

The "Dial-a-Duck" choke? :)

And it can't be uglier than this arrangement of aftermarket parts they try to hawk...
