The Ultimate Bug Out...

Believe me . . . . .if it weren't for family/relations in the area I would've left years ago. I'm still hoping to leave sometime in the next few years. Our land is absolutely nothing special and it's nowhere near Chicago . .we're dead in the middle of the state and when I look out my window I see a corn field on one side, a hay field on the other and tree's out the other two.

Illinois is terrible taxwise. We've got high property taxes, high state income taxes, and taxes on EVERYTHING else. (high gas taxes, etc.)

My wife has been pushing me to go self-sufficient (windmill for generating electricity, solar, etc) but I don't know that it's possible in this state with the level of taxes just to "stay".

Have a good one,
Dave

gun laws aren't

the ONLY stupid prohibitions..

taxes are theft to the degree they're mismanaged and wasted. i'll happily pay for service. paying by demand when nothing occurs that i'd buy voluntarily equates to extortion.

dodging them is possible, by careful planning, but poverty is a piece of the equation.

poor is a great defense against theft. i wouldn't advise anyone to BREAK the law.

Doesn't mean i'd agree to follow it m'self. I'm sure those NO police that were looting arrested folks before AND after their little fun spree..

show me exactly where that makes any sense?

please provide detailed references for any arguement that it does..

now apply that to our dear federal government.. is there any difference morally?

A plot of my own is something I have been looking foward to for a while myself. Personally, I always wanted one of those missile silos on 100acres. You can do a heck of a lot with 10 stories underground, along with the generators that each one had. Even if they were removed, you can get one surplused... ;)

However, I am 22 and trying to get out of debt ($3k CC, $15k student loan, $3k for the bike) and go back to school (thank God I am appointed staff here at the UofA, where tuition is $5/hr for me). I am hoping to get my own apartment in the next few months, hopefully by May or June. What sucks is how insane real estate has become around here. You can't buy a shoebox for $10k in town, and suddenly acreage within 50 miles is doubled. Places that were going for $200 an acre 10 years ago are now $1500 or more. Heck, my mom's place that she got for $33k is now worth almost $50k, and that is just the acreage (10).
