The Wal-Mart Walk

Uh, yeah, suuuure, mmmmmK... I'm sure you went to the Richard Petty School of Driving or some other "top notch" driving academy before getting your DL, too. I guess, according to you, we should have professional chef training before even entering a kitchen, right?

Nope sorry you missed the point. Big difference between those. Not everyone that drives is a racer so such a class is not needed. Not every person that cooks is at the level to need higher education to be a chef. Big diffeence. in thsoe cases, one isn't carrying a weapn for the sole purpose of using it against another person, likely with lethal results. This takes much more responsibilty Ithink and thus should be a bit more serious. Guess some simply see it as another "look what i can do" rather than obtain better training and knowledge. Wiuld you ant a CPA to do your taxes or a someone with a simple accounting class from high school?

Actually, my first CCW class was at Gunsite in AZ. However, not everyone has the time/money to fly across the country to get something they can get locally. THAT was the point you missed. But, according to you, if they can't do "world class", they're either a mall ninja or should forfeit their right to carry for self-defense.

Not everyone who CCWs needs to be a professional gunfighter to defend themselves. Maybe you should stick to playing HALO or SOCOM, sport.

And your CPA analogy fails because that is someone ELSE performing a service. Do I think I need to attend every ninja/tacticool class to properly defend myself? No. However, if I were in the situation to need a body guard, then you can be damned sure I want THAT person to have a very high level of training.

First place I went was the local hardware store...hell I so nervous I even carried with an empty magazine.

A couple weeks later (with actual bullets in the gun) i went to walmart but they didn't sell nachos....just a mcdonalds inside.

Still don't get it, so I can see again that one cannot show the blind the writing on the wall.
I do commend you for attending Gunsite. My partner at Thunder Ranch attend there afterwards and had nothing but great things to say about it. Also, Yes, I do understand that some don't have the time nor money to attend this level of training but there's alternatives between these and the lowest end stuff that doesn't put a dent in the wallet. Besdies if it's such an importnat issue shouldn't that importnatce take a front seat? If one settles for just that basics with thier training, why not do tesame with the equipment? Why buy a high end firearm for defensive purposes when a basic one will suffice? Why a Hk,Sig or S&W when an Astra or Armscor will do?
Again, I'm simply pointing out that with the number of folks oh so serious about thier CC and defensive firearms, very few bother with obtianing a higher level training pertaining to them.
Sorry but I didn't put no traning and mall ninja as equalateral. Reading between the liens and seeing what one wants to see I guess.
Don't play the silly HALO games either "sport". ;)
Another pont misread and misunderstood. Done...

Those that do so are simply wanting to be the macho man. If one heads just for this reason they're doing so - I think - to actually be spotted. Kinda defeats the whole CC concept. One shouldn't get a permit or carry concealed just to boost one's self esteem or ego. Sadly that's what many do I think. Those that are serious about their CCing are thsoe that take the extra step and aquire top notch professional training and not settle with the local nobody classes. I digress...

You're walking on thin ice when you claim to understand exactly what motivates someone else to a course of action. I wonder how you feel about those of us that open carry?

If I wanted to attract attention around here, I'd have to do something a lot more outrageous than carry a gun on my hip. It's almost completely unremarkable.

BTW, here what one of my local nobodies said about open carry:
Lt.Col. Jeff Cooper said:
Strange at it may seem to our over-civilized friends throughout the world, it still warms our heart to see pistols worn openly in the check lines of supermarkets in Prescott. Sad to say most of the exemplars may properly be characterized as geezers, but then Prescott has always qualified as a geezer town - that is one reason why we moved here.

It's interesting that a place with one of the highest concentration of top-name trainers in the world also has so much open carry, isn't it?

Prescott sure ain't a quaint little geezer town anymore with the liberal hippies and California nuts moving in. Much has changed in the last twenty or so years when my family moved there in 1987. It's gotten WAY too expensive, too. :fire:

I hate Shopping, hate it. I never go to Malls. If I go to a Store it is the Hardware or Drug Store. Now on occasion I do have to go to a Store but I still refuse to go to a Mall. If I can't access the Store by a separate entrance I won,t go. The wife on occasion gets me to go to the Big Box Stores but, it is only to help here buy a big item or give my opinion on something. Once in a while I get trapped and just have to do it but, not very often. I will go food shopping if she persists only because I get a guilty conscience after a while. What can I say, I'm a strange old man.

From the title of this thread I thought it was about being walked to the door with a new gun purchase, still one of the more bizarre episodes I can remember. I had promised my youngest son a shotgun of his own, found a good deal on one, and went in to pay for it, having already put a down payment to hold it. I filled out all the forms in triplicate, and was in a hurry, because I wanted to give it to my son the next morning, so he could use it on a dove hunt the next day. The lady behind the counter could tell I was getting agitated, and then a manager lady showed up, and took the box off the counter, and stood next to me. When I asked why, she said it was their policy to walk gun purchases to the front door before handing them to the customers. I laughed, and said it was gonna look kinda stooooopid, in my case.

I was in full uniform at the time, with a pistol rather obviously displayed on my hip! :p But I still had to walk the walk!

I think Wally World was the second place I carried concealed after becoming legal. No big deal as I have been carrying somewhat illegal for most of my adult life (the 2nd amendment is my carry permit).

I sure wish I could afford to travel all over the country and get some of that fancy training...Oh well...I guess I'll just have to depend on my 50 years of handling firearms to carry me though...I do have experience defending myself and quite successfully I might add. I'm still here aren't I?

It is true that Wal Mart has strict rules in place to keep all of its associates from bringing any kind of firearm onto company property. I am a Manager for Wal Mart Stores, and I hope that the Georgia Senate passes the law that makes it illegal for an employer to stop employees whom are ccw holders, from keeping a firearm in a locked vehicle. As for customers, I have never given much thought about anyone carrying concealed, or in an open manner. It just doesn't bother me.

This one needed bumpin'

Sounds good as I just got my permit yesterday and have not gone to WalMart yet. I promise I will go tomorrow to pick up some ammo or something.

well i guess that settles it. when my ccw finally gets here im going straight to walmart, getting some nachos and buying some bullets :barf:

hey what if i go to target instead? does that still count?

btw i hate walmart. only buy ammo & dickies there

I to did the wal-mart walk. I go shopping every sat. morning @ 2:00 A.M. When I got my CCP I have to admit the 1st place was wal-mart.

Didn't have Wal*Marts when I started carrying long ago . . . and back then, we carried rocks & pointy sticks. First place I went was outside of the cave . . . Og told me I was nuts . . .

I was in a WallyWorld I'd never been in the other day to check ammo prices, and saw a guy there that reminded me of this thread. He looked really nervous, looking all around him every few seconds, and at first I thought he was a shoplifter. But then I noticed he couldn't keep his hands away from his waist, and realized he was doing The Walk. I edged over closer to him, startling him, and whispered, "I can't see it, but if you don't keep your hands off it, EVERYONE'S gonna know where it is. Relax."

He looked at me and nodded, then looked at my beltline............"You packin' too?"

I nodded as I moved away, and over my shoulder whispered, "45." His eyes got big as he looked for it, couldn't tell where it was, and I wandered off.

The nachos were stale. :p

papajohn, that story is hilarious.

I seem to see more people open carrying in Wal-Mart than just about anywhere else. Last week I was in Wal-Mart and I saw a guy in an electric scooter packing a well worn 1911 on his left side. I went back to sporting goods to get some white box .22-250. The clerk asked if I handload for the sidearm I was carrying, and told me he'd bet he had ammo for it at a better price than I could load it for. I won the friendly bet when I told him it was a .41 Magnum.

I'm an overnight associate at a walmart in Kentucky. State law forbids my dark corporate masters from keeping a firearm in our cars. I once had a manager tell me that they could fire an associate for doing so, until I printed out the state law and handed it to him. I carry there when I am off the clock. I really wish I could carry on the clock, but if they found out, I could get canned. Thought about an NAA Black widow in .22 mag. Could easily carry that on my ankle as they forbid us from wearing shorts.
