Yes, I think I finally converted my wife.... My 4 year old daughter has been bothering me to go to go to Cabelas to "Shoot the bears" in there indoor shooting gallery. So Friday night we all went to Cabelas and I got a bunch of tokens so my daughter could play. Well, my wife wanted to try it. Sure, no problem, have at it honey. :) Told her how to line up the sights and let her shoot. She runs through all the shots and only missed 1. Not bad considering you could just wave the gun and hit most of the targets. We get finished and she looks at me and says " I want my own gun"... What? Is this my wife saying this? The same person who thinks I'm nuts for getting my CCW and going shooting just about every weekend? I said "No problem let's head down to the rifle counter" (While I'm grinning ear to ear) I had her hold a few plinking rifles. She said she liked the feel of the Ruger 10/22 best. I told her we'll stop back in a week or so and get one for her. She now wants to go to the range. Wooohooo, it's about time.. I've been trying to get her to go for over a year! Guess this could be a chance.. "Well honey since you got that nice new rifle, I guess I need a new one to shoot with you"

This is going to get interesting,

Ron

You want to be very careful and think this through. I got my girlfriend (now wife) into shooting years ago. Since then she has gotten a lifetime CCW license (good) but she has stolen at least 2 of my guns and claimed them as her own (bad).

While it is great to go shooting with the wife I am just saying think about your guns. :D

If I could only get my girlfriend to go shooting... she's not against guns just says she doesnt want to go shoot :( Her bro is a marine, her dad a vietnam vet and my background check for the corps is goin on right now... she still wont budge...

HELP!!!

I got my GF into shooting... (good deal)

she now does her gun shopping in my walk-in gun vault, and tries to claim my guns as "hers" (bad deal!) (she really loves the Green Mountain barrelled, Boyds Thumbhole Stocked, BSA "Sweet .22" scoped 10/22 I hand built for ME!, and only tolerates the Volquartsen barrelled, Hogue stocked, Leupold scoped 10/22 I bought for HER... something wrong here!

'tis a tradeoff, but all in all, a good one!

When we first got together, my wife also started out with trepidation about firearms. Her main concern was safety, and two of her siblings are LEOs (pro-RKBA LEOs) who told her what to "watch out" for with her fiancee and guns. She accepted my safety standards, and over the last 12 years or so, she has watched as I taught our daughter shooting and safety, and has gotten really acquainted with my revolver. Now, she and I are taking the CCW class together this semester. :D

Becareful not to create a Monster ;)

although it makes buying more guns as "his & her" purchases, much more understanding :D

the wife wanted a NM AR-15, I got build her one, and I got a M4-Gery

the wife mentioned a Hard Ball 45, I build her one, and I got a Champion

My wife did the same thing. I got her a 10/22 and she loves it! She is a much better shot with it than I am. :what:

Congrats and keep her shooting. :)

:uhoh: like others have said..watch out.

my wife tried to claim some of my guns, but we had to get stainless versions of them. she calls it "the shiny factor."

it can get expensive fast.

now our 12 y.o. stepdaughter is interested in shooting.:uhoh:

there goes the ammo bill.:what:

oh well, it could be worse. they could've been liberals.:neener:

There are pluses and minuses here. My wife took my fishing tackle from me. :uhoh:

I got to buy new fishing tackle. :)

Then she started liking my guns. :uhoh:

I got to buy new guns. :)

Last week, she told me. I want to learn to ride a motorcycle. :uhoh:

Then said, "When you get a new one, I'll take your old one." :)

There is a lady, call sign PAX, a member of this forum, who is very likely the most knowlegdeable person around on the subject of women and guns. I highly recommend that you check out her website, www.corneredcat.com , and do a search on "PAX", you'll find out all you could want to know on the subject.

Heck my wife is at home right now with the new Shotgun News and a highlighter! I'm sure I'll come home and at least 20-30 pages will have been dog-eared for something interesting or another.

Of course I don't don't mind. Most men's wives want jewelery or clothing as presents.

Mine was overjoyed when I brought her home a Mosin Nagant 91/30!

Make sure to get her all the accessories - nice electronic muffs, range bag, ect...

Oh, and don't forget the 22 pistol with the red dot, holster, belt, shooting glasses, and of course.......;)

Not totally kidding though - I have found that women appreciate lots of gifts - and the thought that goes with getting it for them - and they don't have to be all expensive or big gifts - keep her interested by getting her all the little things too - she will appreciate it and associate shooting with the affection she recieves from you from your continued attention. Not like us guys - buy us a gun or a truck and we're content for a year. :D

My wife will go shooting with me and is a very good shot. It just doesn't hold the attraction for her that it does for me. However, tonight after 25 plus years of marriage she has decided she wants to know more about football so she can watch the games with me. We have been using the Washington-Minnisota game and the Tevo to teach her about offensive and defensive formations and positions. So there is hope. Once I have the money I plan on a ladysmith so she will know the gun was purchased for her and not for me, pretending it is for her.:D

Careful there, Ron. Don't make this about you. Make it HER shopping trip. She might be offended if your looking for your new gun on HER shopping trip. Let her fill out the BATF form, and pay with her own money (pride of ownership means a lot), and resist the urge to give too much advice. When she asks your opinion, ask her what she thinks about it, the sights, the feel, the balance, whatever, and then tell her she has good instincts, or some such.

She picked her own gun and she actually picked one that felt right to her. I think we're going to grab a nice new Ruger 10/22 with scope Cabelas has on sale right now. (She wanted the composite stock until she saw one with a scope) She was looking at the ads and said we really need gun safe since own daughter is only 4. Looks like we may be heading to the range Saturday morning, grandma is going to babysit. I'd rather not try to watch a 4 year old when I'm teaching my wife the basics.

My wife has claimed two of mine so far, and don't for a second think they don't know the better ones:(

I'll give vou one warning...

The ladies I've known who have gotten big into shooting just might clean your clock. You might have to check your "guy card" at the door. I've been whupped more than once by a gal at the trap range. I don't know if it's the concentration on the target, or a steadier hand, whatever. They can be formidable competitors.

skeeter, I've seen this too. One small lady at the shotgun club I used to shoot at was one of the best skeet shooters I've seen. Also at the indoor pistol range, one young lady who is a police officer now used to clean the men's clocks on the competition night regularly.
