My favorite lever action rimfire is the Winchester 9422. Sadly, they are now out of production but I'll bet that a bunch of THR members own one.

Here is my 9422 XTR Classic, which is chambered for .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle. This is similar to the later 9422 Legacy, but doesn't have checkering on the wood.

Here's a closeup of the action. Note that I had a tang sight fitted. (Make unknown, I found it in a parts bin at a gun show and it's unmarked.)

I'll put this combo up against any .22 bolt action sporter for accuracy. :)

Show us what ya got.

I have a 9422M of '73 vintage, iirc. I bought it at a gun show some years ago.

I bought a 94/22M XTR for cheap about a year ago. Not the slickest, has about 50% light rust freckles, 50% blue, rear sight was bent. Rifle is mechanicaly perfect though, wood is pretty good with some minor dents and good checkering still.

I installed a new rear sight for a Winchester 94 .30-30, which is near identical except heavier guage steel. Took it shooting and love it! I do wish it were .22LR, but magnum works too. Only .22 magnum rifle I own.

May be the first .22 magnum rifle I've ever shot, don't remember having ever fired one before. Got more beans than I anticipated!

I have two of these.

The first one was a Christmas present the first year they came out. I got a 9422M, and a buddy got a 9422 (LR). It was a pretty expensive present and I recall that it was all I got from my parents and grandparents that year. It's still here. To be honest, it doesn't get shot much; I wish I had gotten a .22LR version, but that's how things go sometimes.

Years later my wife saw a very nice, very clean used .22LR XTR in a local shop and we bought that. It's nice to have both versions. My boys really like the big little Winchester.

Thanks Dave. Didn't notice the tang sight on yours earlier. Cool. Anyone have a preference in .22 mag ammo? I'm using Federal 30 gr hollow points and they seem to do ok with the factory sights; minute of rabbit at 50 yards. One nice thing about the 9422 is that it can easily be scoped for ammo testing and then unscoped afterward.

I have one that is our standard plinking 22lr. At times its accuracy can be spooky but usually it it just for plinking at cans and what ever else can be seen.

Works great with Shorts!

I've got two. I bought the first a couple of years ago, a 1973 or 1974 22LR/L/S version which I put a 4x NcStar scope on. Some dings on the stock and a few scratches on the receiver, but otherwise in great shape.

The 2nd I bought last week. It is a late 1980s XTR version which was too nice to pass up. Virtually new condition with box. I think I may have put more round though it in the last week (150) than it had in the previous 18 or 19 years. I plan on keeping it with just iron sights.

They are amazingly good rifles. Too bad they aren't being made, but it would be worse if they weren't made to the high standard of the earlier guns.
