I rushed home after work to indulge myself in some good ol' SA shooting. For the last month or so I've been really wringing out a new Uberti Bisley in 45 Colt. My, what a fine specimen. I normally purchase SA revolvers knowing that I'll disassemble them and perform various little tweaks to make them "better" such as cutting the forcing cone to 11°, installing lighter springs, having the cylinder throats uniformed, etc. But this time, all I did was work the trigger over just a little. The revolver has been a joy to shoot and groups 265-ish grain SWC's running close to a grand into 4" clusters at 50 yds.
The finish too is the best I've seen yet on the Italian repros with the faux color case hardening being deep and rich. I've been intending to perform something of a review on the revolver along with some good pictures, but I find it infinitely more rewarding to shoot!
But tonight, the Bisley stayed in the safe and out came a Cimarron P Model .44 Special I bought new around 4 years ago. This one has had a little work done to it because I initially bought it for CAS competition. I had the rear V sight opened to .125" by a machinist and then I soldered in a full width front sight. It's finish is likewise very nice and like it's bigger, younger brother shoots incredibly well for a "cheap" imported revolver. Tonight she put 13 of 15 shots into a fist-sized bunch at 50. I didn't bother with a picture, but here's a similar 50 yd. sample from some time ago:
FWIW, I sold this Colt .44 Special and never looked back. A few months prior to selling the Colt, I let go a beautiful, US-produced USFA 45 Colt simply because from a functionality standpoint, it was no better than the Italians and in fact shot too high with anything but loads that replicated the original 45 Colt load.
Long live the Ragoo Revolvers!
