"thin" 1911 options

I'll second the 938 for a 1911'ish carry gun. It's going to be tough to beat in terms of slimness and weight.

To add to what Skylerbone said, all 3 of my 1911 frames are about .75" wide. Even the EMP.

The STI LS makes it claim to fame by slimming down the slide, not the frame. And it does that by significantly departing from the traditional 1911 design. I watched a take down vid of it on youtube, it's different to say the least...

Maybe that'll do it for you though Arp? The slide is the thicker part of the gun. I guess the problem would be finding one, maybe it's just my area but I've never seen an STI in any gunstores around here.

Yeah I think these are some good options that I wasn't really thinking of. I can at least handle the Kahr and the Sig at a LGS to get a feel for them. With a pinky extension, the Sig 938 would be "just right" size wise. As would the Kahr with a lighter trigger (6-8lbs maybe).

I probably would have purchased an STI LS9 by now except that for $900 I'd at least like to be able to see one first. I don't think I've ever seen one in person, either.

I'm not so much concerned that the internals be true to form, the things I like about the 1911 platform is the manual of arms, the SA trigger, the all metal construction and the grip angle. And that even the fattest single stack 1911 feels svelte compared to a double-stack polymer gun.

The Tokarev (and even the Colt 1903) are slim pieces that mostly meet that criteria, but I wouldn't consider them for CCW...

Thanks guys. Going to do some research on the K9 and 938 now.

I really like the Kahr's trigger. It took some getting back to basics for me as I hadn't fired much DA revolver recently (similar in feel to Kahr's DAO) but after a few range sessions with my fathers CW9 things started clicking again.

My K9 doesn't feel like more than 6 lbs. or so, my 1911s and M&Ps all sit at or just below 4 lbs. and I'm already shooting the Kahr nearly as well as any of them.

Arp32 Not sure what you feel is safe for a CC trigger but the kahrs triggers do tend to light'n up and we all know many rental guns are not service well.A drop of lube and a litghter stricker spring really improves the kahr triggers. Look again at the cw,P and TP line as thinner option that feels right in the hand. I have to small models, cm and cw0 and both pull just under 6lbs smooth with not stacking.

There is the p938 sig but if that pewee grip works for you it might give you that micro sized 1911 feel. just wait till they get the extration issues fixed a bit better.

A allways figure a real gun guy can shoot most anything well with time behind the trigger.
