I might sound a bit silly & ignorant here & i've only asked this a thousand times in my head.

I have been looking to buy myself a pocket pistol for ccw in .380.
polymer or steel is not an issue for me and i have gone thru some brands on the market (ruger, kel tec, kahr, NAA, etc.)

with kahr & naa, with it being steel made i probably think its the more reliable among the others however id really want to prefer the kel tec or the ruger LCP because i'd be carrying it inside my pocket (not on a holster) and weight would definitely be a nuisance for me.

since i found that (for me) the kel tec & the ruger lcp has a rather very thin barrel and that i have read that the disadvantages of a thin barrel is that the barrel tends to be hot quicker after a few fired shots.

now my question is that will a thin barrel wear off easily? is it not going to crack after about a hundred rounds? is it safe" (as in "fired 10,000 rounds thru it" safe?) when i saw the thin barrel off the kel tec & the LCP, it totally turned me off....but mind you i really wanted to like it...

any insights would be great!! Thanks!

there safe, I have a friend who has 42,500 roundsthrough his lcp and the barrel is perfect. I have shot my lcp over 1550 rounds and only once have I shot it 200 times and it never got hot . I really don't touch the barrel either. It should get hot but they are ok. Thin yes but durable yes. The Kahr P380 barrel is twice as thick but again it will get hot also.

Just shoot it like u stole it..

How long has the LCP been on the market? Maybe he did the torture test for RUGER and workrd out the bugs.

But, they didn't work out the bugs until very recently! :D

And I'm a little sceptical about the 42,500 rounds myself. That's 850 boxes, and $12,750 bucks at $15 bucks a box!

prefer the kel tec or the ruger LCP because i'd be carrying it inside my pocket (not on a holster)
If you are going to carry a gun in your pocket, it needs to be in a pocket holster for several reasons.

1. It covers the trigger for safety.
2. It helps keep dust bunnies out and rust off the gun.
3. It keeps the gun butt-up in your pocket so you can actually draw it without fumbling to turn it right-side up first.
4. I keeps the gun from wearing out your pocket lining prematurely.

then

ask moderator RJ over on the kt forum, he posted it, I didn't make it up. I think also he stated it was a range use gun also. I believe he even stated that he provided ruger with the ammo receipts to prove what he stated.

I know the fella and I trust his comments more than a few who don't..

Thats just south of 6 boxes of 20 per day 365 days for a yr.:what:
He must have a hell of a callus on the side his middle finger.
Also the best mousegun shot in the world.

if u

read my last post, I think I stated he owns a shooting range and it was his range gun that anyone could use/rent. I didn't mean to mislead anyone into believing that he himslef shot all those rounds. I think at the time he even stated that was less then 200 rounds per day out of the lcp.

If he lying, he is lying, I don't think he is. RC knows who in the heh I am talking about...

Humm??? I think I will start renting LCPs. That sounds like a business to get into. :scrutiny:

Sorry range gun and he owns a range and has the gun as a rental are a little different. I can go along with that although I would be concerned about renting out a small gun with that round count.

I shot three boxes of ammo through my LCP the first day I had it just to make sure I could depend on it. Not one jam using some cheap "factory reloaded" ammo I bought at the firing range. I haven't noticed any barrel problem. The gun cleaned up easily and did not show any problems afterwards.

x-rap

evidentely he was not concerned. When he bought it, he announced on the kel tec forum (he is also a kt moderator) that he was going to shoot it until it broke. at that round count the gun falted. He sent it back to Ruger, they rebuilt it and to my knowledge it is again a range/rental gun.

I don';t think he was out to prove anythiing and had no real expectations of the life of the gun either. I evidetly went far far longer than he and most readers give the lcp credit for..

I've never heard of a barrel failure on a P-3AT and it's got to be about as thin as they get.

There was a guy named Clark that used to post at KTOG and he was loading 380 ammo to 9mm pressures and firing them through his P-3AT. He never reported a barrel failure either.
