Thining about a Kahr PM9 or MK9

I am thinking about buying a Kahr PM9 or MK9
for a CCW. Some say they are not very pleasant
to shoot. I currently carry a 2.25" SP101 .357. I dont
mind the .357's out of it. So how bad is the baby
Kahr's recoil? What about the P9?

Pm9

I bought the PM9 because it offered the smallest size and still packs a punch. For daily carry I went from a scandium .357, to a Glock 30 then to a S&W 4040PD and finally to the PM9. I almost don't know I'm carrying it. Pocket carry is no problem. Kick probably ain't as harsh as your .357 SP101. Trigger is kind of a lite DAO like the Glock.

I wanted a 12 ounce 15 round auto pistol in 500 S&W that kicks like a 22, but since I couldn't find one, I compromised and bought the Kahr. BTW, I have over a thousand rounds thru it with no serious problems.

The problem with the PM9 is that the grip is very small.I have a large hand and there's just not enough to get a good grip on the pistol.This is worse with the PM40 with the added recoil.

Just can't do the Kahr thing, I had a new P40 that fell apart on me at the range. Maybe the 9mm is a better platform for it.

Alot of people avoid the polymer Kahr's because of earlier issues. I purchased the P9 and liked it so much I bought the PM9 to go with it. Both have worked flawlessly from the get go, both are newer models. They have the black tungsten finish on the slides, and it seems to be holding up very well. As for recoil, I think the PM9 isn't bad at all. The triggers are a plus on these guns, very smooth. A great CCW choice in my book.

I can only tell you about one Kahr my 2003 mk9 elite, fired hundreds of rounds
no failure, recoil is very lite compared to most 9's of this size, trigger in my opinion is excellent the only DA I have purchased or liked. I shoot my reloads
also without problems. I have really been amazed at this little gun.

I carried a Glock 26 for two years and kept switching to a Kel-Tec P-32 or my Makarov because the Glock was so bulky. I kept going back to the Glock for ease of cleaning and the fact that I could sweat all over it and couldn't get it to rust. I was more concerned with rust on my Kel-tec and Mak but they concealed so much better than the Glock.

I finally "bit the bullet" and put out the money for a PM9 and I love it. I can carry it all day w/o hardly knowing it's there. I did have some teething problems with the PM9 during it's 200 round break in period-but it's a moot point now that it functions flawlessly with with FMJ and my carry ammo.

I highly reccomend it. If you need a 3 fingered grip you can always use the extended mag. It does, however, make the PM9 more bulky when carrying concealed.

My PM9 works just fine.

It does seem to be borderline size for pocket carry. There is a fair size lump in the pocket, and it even feels a little heavy.

I feel much better using IWB Milt Sparks EX holster.

I didn't find either one unpleasant to shoot.

There is a surprising amount of muzzle flip in the polymer version.

Just for comparison, I am most used to shooting a Glock 26 and find it about perfect in terms of recoil. The Kahr PM9 has about the same amount of kick, maybe a tad more, but a lot more flip.

I don't find the Kahr PM9 uncomfortable to shoot at all.

If you have no problem with recoil from an SP-101 then you'll have even less problem with a PM9.

How do you plan on CCWing the gun?
I went with the P9 becaue I felt the PM9 was to small...
In the winter I carry the P9 OWB strong side
In the summer I Carry the P9 IWB with a Comptac CTAC and love it.

The recoil isnt bad and the DAO trigger is very consistant.

I have the Blackened DLC version and it has never had a hiccup of anykind with any ammo....drf

If you get a PM-9, you'll probably be very happy with it.

If however, you get an MK-9, you'll probably like it but wish it was lighter for its purposes (staying on your person for 99.99% of its life, as opposed to putting it to use). You'll then probably purchase the PM-9 and keep the MK-9 and be glad you have both. Anyway, that's what happened to me, only I started with an MK-40 and later purchased the PM-9. I had "teething" issues on both, however, so be forewarned of that possibility.

I got my PM9 about 2 weeks ago. Last Saturday I ran about 250 rounds of various 115 and 127 grain though it to get it broken in (200 rounds) and sight it in. No misfires, one misfeed on a JHP (this was before it was broken in). None of this ammo was +p or +p+, and after 2 one-day sessions I felt no fatigue. Recoil with all was, in my mind, mild, even compared to my full size 9mm Ruger P89. I got quickly used to the DAO trigger and was putting most shots in the black at 21 feet, shooting double-handed. I expect this to improve over time.

In short, I think the PM9 is an excellent gun. I'll know better after I've started carrying it in a pocket holster (Mika) (my CCL is due anyday).

In the meantime I'm getting some +p+ 115 Georgia Arms Gold Dots and some Ranger +p+ 115s to try out the hot stuff.

The only Kahr I have held is the P9. It felt great!
I had originally planed on buying a S&W CS9 or
CS45 but the Kahr just fit better. I guess the
main advantage of the PM9 over the P9 would be
having the option to pocket carry. Is the P9
know for being more reliable than the

That seems to be pretty common, I think I have only read once someone
going the other way and trading their PM9 for a MK9.

Is the P9 more reliable than the PM9

I would think that the P9 might me a bit more reliable than the PM( because its a little bigger. Also I have read about more problems with the PM9 compared to the P9...
Many many people on this site and others have loved the purchase decision they made with the PM9 so really its your call..

For reliability reasons if you do buy either a P or PM Kahr make sure it has the blackened stainless slide with tungsten DLC because these are the latest pistols with all of the bugs worked out of them...

If you get a stainless colored Kahr, you dont know when it was made....

The little P9 does feel good in the hands doesnt it.....drf

My PM9 has been 100% reliable with a variety of ammo. Can't get more reliable than 100%.

If you get a stainless colored Kahr, you don't know when it was made

Kahr can (and will) tell you when a pistol was made by the serial number.
