Think i want a suppressor

I was at the gun show and was checkin out the Walther P22's. And i think that could be one fun little gun then add a suppressor you would have one heck of a little gun.

So what is the best approach to asking the county sherriff if he will sign for me?

I don't know but I have to incorporate around here as no one will sign off on suppressors here. Full-auto, yes - suppressors, no.

The absolute easiest way is to form a corporation-> no hassles with the sheriff or attorney general etc... Also no fingerprints or photo are necessary and any manager of the corporation can have possession of the item. But you won't actually own the suppressor, your company will. So you gotta keep the thing running in order to keep the goodies.

Down here in Houston the sheriff and police chief have said they will not under any circumstances sign off on Form 4s. So incorporation is pretty much our only route.

If you aren't some deranged psychopath or anything like that, there's no real reason why he shouldn't sign saying that your a decent guy, an honest, law abiding citizen, and so on. Worse come to worse, you could form your own corporation and bypass getting the CLEO's signature, or go to the local district attorney or certain judges to get the signature.

I'll have me a suppressor someday too; I think on the end of a varminter style AR, ala SPR, yeah, that'd be pretty groovy

so tell me a little more about the incorporating stuff. how does that work??

Or is your official county a little further north? In which case you may have a chance. Does Ohio even allow the serfs to have stuff like that?

I am up north of cincy.

Is Simon the Sherriff in hamilton county. Because the head of the hamilton county sherriff will sign for them.

FWIW, I have heard that there are "issues" regarding the P22 and that surpressor. Saw the problems mentioned on a few of the other sites I syurf. You might check out American -Manufacturer as a source for a surpressor. They seem to have a prtty good product for reasonable prices.

The problems are with the Walther P-22(s), not the suppressor. The Walther P-22 is German made. I have a lot of problems dealing with American made pistols (TPH especially) lately.

sounds good to me! it would be nice to be able to tell people that i am part owner of a corporation. and not just in minute stock form.

Don't go the corporation route unless you have to. When your corporation buys an NFA item, it pays the $200 transfer tax. If your corporation closes, you have to transfer the NFA item to yourself or sell it to someone else. That means you get to pay another $200 tax if you keep it and still have to get the CLEO to sign a Form 4.

Just call the sheriff's office and ask them. The county sheriff office where I live has a secretary to handle NFA transfers. You take the forms to her, she runs your name through NCIC, you pay her a $25 handling fee and leave. She keeps the forms, gets the sheriff to sign them and mails them to you. It never takes more than 1 or 2 days to get the forms back.
